What's your computer set up look like?

I was just interested if anyone else is using dual monitors or TV output. I've provided some images, along with explanations, on my editing setup.

ws1.jpg

My basic setup, you can't see the TV in this one, you can see the Dual monitors (samsung 712n flatscreens), the media center keyboard and mouse (nothing special haha), the media center itself (model 1050y, if anyone wants specs, let me know, i'm very proud of the little guy, he was expensive), and the surround controller.

ws2.jpg

Here you can see the TV, which I can output to while editing to view progress, you can also see my bass amp, and once we get better shorts where custom music is needed, me and some of the other members of Reluctant Productions (faro and mike) will start scoring our movies, which brings me to our next picture.

ws3.jpg

The keyboard (just a shitty yamaha portable), and beyond that, that scanner\printer\copier (scripts, storyboards, character drawings, shot lists)

ws4.jpg

My other two computers, an awful desktop I use for space and internet access (it connects, and i go on the good computer to do everything, it's mainly just for space and access), and my laptop, which is for writing scripts, doing photoshop work on the go, and is handy on set.

Eh, leave some comments if you want, I don't know what it could involve, perhaps organization haha. But i'm interested in other people's setups, so please, do show.

Nice Thread!  I'm working on my editing studio right now, I plan on having a soundproof room for voice overs...(and for my friends who are aspiring mc's  ::)) I'd like to see what you guys have, and any advice on equipment and what not...

Well actually as far as audio production goes, I have some more specs I can throw in that we're planning on purchasing. For one, I'm turning my bedroom into a voiceover\dialogue\foley\music recording studio. We're purchasing a behringer eurorack 8 track digital mixer, and hopefully, depending on battery packs and generators we can get, we'll be using that when we shoot on the DVX, to get pristine quality. We're also purchasing a new PCI sound card for my editing computer (with four 1\4 inch jacks, to come from the mixer) and tons of ins and outs, with perfect quality. Also, a decent pair of headphones are in the mix. haha.

Re: What's your computer set up look like?

I'd be embarrassed as hell to post a pic of my workspace. Half of it is covered in computer gear (like i'm guessing most people's desks are) and the other half is ... food and drink. Ack, eek, opps... It's a bloody mess.

I don't know where my firewire cable is at..

Re: What's your computer set up look like?

Nice setup Josh. Make sure you get all that equipment insured.

That's funny Spider :D

Hey Joshrelutant...Cool setup. How are those lcd's working out for editing? I'd like to get a couple myself to keep the temperature down in this room. Sometimes i get so groggy from the heat I fall asleep in my freakin chair.

thats the radiation.
;)

yeah, i had dual 19' lcd smsungs for awhile. they are fantastic. i have the same setup at work. im spoiled as hell now on the dualies, cant do much with out them. at home i just got the HP 2335 23" monitor, so i have that as well as a 19'. i highly recommend the 2335. its the same screen as the apple 23...but its almost 500 bucks cheaper, and is way more adjustable.

Re: What's your computer set up look like?

I'm Ok with the radiation. Beer, cigarettes and radiation I thrive on that stuff . It's the pure heat comming from the back of these puppies that wigs me out. How is the grey scale representation on those lcd's? most of the ones I've seen go from black to white with two shades in between.

It's the Crate BFX160. 160 watts, 0+db input, and a -15db input. All the flanger\chorus effects built into it. I got it about 6 years ago, now they have newer models of it. I have the exact same guitar amp, except it's a GFX. I love Crate haha.

And yes the monitors work excellently, and I do have them insured. At least warrantied. Haha. 100 bucks for both monitors, and 50 bucks for anything involving the order I made with HP for the computer for 2 years.

I'm still waiting for the desk my dad was supposed to build me...

Josh, that's the exact bass amp I have! 8) Great amp, got mine about 6 years ago, too. My buddy has a Crate twin--man can he get some great tones out of it with his Strat. Did the Crate badge fall off your amp? :'(

Nope... haha. It's not a BC rich guitar, where the headstock falls off after a year. Horrible guitars. I play ibanez mostly, and I have a jackson electric guitar, thing's f'ing screamin'!!

Re: What's your computer set up look like?

I have a Jackson electric bass! Haha, don't we have good taste?

oh.. btw that reef aquarium is really a monitor :)[/quote]

Very nice, it looks weird positioned in front of a bed though (as far as I can tell). Looks very nice though. Truth be told though. I don't even own a DVX. I'm actually just the editor for the owner of a DVX. But we're best friends and in the same film company. So that's why I didn't have a DVX in my picture, if anyone was asking.

...Does that mean I can't post?

Heck no, post away!

I'll post a pic of my setup once it's complete. We're still hanging drywall, taping, mudding, priming and painting the house we bought and gutted. Can't wait to get my computer stuff out of storage. Should be a great environment to edit video in.

Haha, good. I felt weird, because everyone is a DVX user. I work with the DVX, i'm on set when we use it, I act in front of it, my best friend and partner in crime (filmmaking wise, don't get any ideas fellas) owns one, and i was like the only one there the day he got it, and I also just love the camera haha. So it's good to know I'm still welcome. :)

Re: What's your computer set up look like?

Josh,

well that door is my closet I use to have it setup like this:

http://www.realm.cc/c3.gif

but I took out that computer and just have that one on the side in the closet (you can see it on the right hand side of the pic) for all my rendering.
