What's wrong with the iKan v5600 HD 5.6" monitor??

Hey everyone. I had decided to buy this monitor after recommendation by my vistek rep, but now ti seems iKan is regularly bashed in some of the forums. The only time I seem to hear reference to them is when it's bad. Is there a better or option for the same money or are you guys buying the cheaper versions finding they are the same or better for less money? I can see the advantage of monitors that offer pekaing like the Marshalls, but they are a lot more moeny I think, and I'm not even sure if iKan have or don't have this feature. Until I started researching, I didn't even know what peaking was.

Without starting a "best monitor" thread, can anyone advise me of why I should NOT get this monitor and what alternatives I should consider? I'm not one to buy the cheapest gear out there aqnd would rather buy something that will last and that will help me produce better video instead of making me frustrated. The ability to view the monitor outside or add a hood is also importa nt because of the type of shooting I do.

Thanks!

There is quite a bit of info on dvxuser regarding the Ikan. From what I have read, I would not buy one. SmallHD looks like good value for the dollar although it does not appear to have pixel to pixel functionality. The Marshall V-LCD70P does have pixel to pixel. The new Ikan VX9 is similar but have not seen any feedback on it yet. Granted, these are a bit above your price range but if you are looking for "something that will last and that will help me produce better video instead of making me frustrated" these might fit the bill. At least for me the ability for critical focus is important and I would rather buy something once than buy it twice.

Well to be fair, there's a lot of posts about Ikan V8000HD, almost none at all on the V5600 . I'm responsible for a fair number of those posts, and most of them are negative. The V8000HD is indeed a terrible monitor, but Ikan has had two years to improve, and so few people have the v5600 that essentially we don't know how this monitor performs.

Thanks Huy for your optimism. I think we've come a long way to improve our monitors since the days of the V8000HD. The V5600 is very popular with those shooting DSLRs due to the fact it's very light .7 lbs. and has a great resolution 1024 x 600. If you're looking for something larger, I recomend our VX9 - our new 8.9 inch monitor with HD-SDI, HDMI, Component, Composite and S Video. You can see all of our new hd monitors at http://www.ikancorp.com/productListing.php?CategoryID=2
