Whats wrong with my White Balance?

Hey,

Maybe you can help me or have experienced the same thing. As we all know, you are all respected professional Doctor's with PHD's:) So I feel comfortable asking you guys this question. When you keep one eye closed, you see colors just fine right? But what about when you close that eye and keep the otherone open, do you see the same color temperature as you did in the other eye? This has been bothering me for some time now. Each eye sees a different color temp, warm in one and cool in the other. It happens mostly when I am really tired or when I wake up, it happens other times as well. I am curious as to how many people have this problem. Thanks for any and all medical advice. :)

Maybe "they" need to make new versions of us. "Now with 'true color temp' White Balance, an issue corrected from previous model." LOL

Man, I'm REALLY glad you asked this... I noticed this when I was a small kid and every now and then I thought about it more... I kinda' thought I was just a freak.

Yeah if you have only one eye open and alternate you can really see it.

My left eye is the blue one... how 'bout you? Is the right red like mine?

My left eye gives everything a much warmer look to it, and the right eye gives everything a cooler bluish kinda' look. I just hope that my I am not going to go blind or something because of this :(
But Pookie might have the right idea, nothing critical...I hope. :/

Try staring at a plain white sheet of printing paper (with both eyes) for about 20-30 seconds. Then, test your eyes for color balance again. Also, if you keep one eye closed for an extended period of time, you will notice a greater contrast in 'color balance' between the eyes.

When using your camera's viewfinder, you have one eye staring into a brightly-lit, magnified LCD. The other eye is usually closed or squinted to greatly reduce the amount of incoming light. The color contrast is very noticeable after several minutes (or more) of operating camera in this way.

My point is: I believe it to be a temporary color shift and that it is possible to change which eye sees which color and that it's possible to reset your eye's "white balance".

I get that same problem too from squinting all the time. Sometimes i see dots too..its soo weirdd. Then i just like wipe both eyes, blink hard a few times, look at different colored things...then im good to shoot again.

If you use the LCD pop out screen u wont have that problem...but you'll get the problem of wasted battery.

Hey blckhawk542

Well, it's not a problem involving video cameras or anything, it's just a problem in general that I thought I'd ask about and apparently a lot of people are born like this. I'm just tyring to figure out if this is normal or only happens to us, its weird. But yeah, join the club, I am actually going to start making t-shirts for people who have this little problem LOL :) 15 bucks a pop. LOL

i've had this problem forever, and it's not after i shoot video or stare at an lcd. it's when i'm usually relaxing and close my eyes for some time. I'm sure it's happened when i shoot video, but eh, i don't care. I just look at the framing and then the lighting.

It's never happened to me on a shoot, I'm just saying that it happens in general and it usually happens to me the same way too when I am relaxing and close my eyes. Most of the time when I am just hanging out in my room or I doze off and wake up real quick, but it's funny how when you have both eyes open they just cancel each other out and you get the normal color.

You guys seem to be missing the point that you are not unique. If you have eyes, optic nerves and a brain (all of which are functioning) and you're not color blind, then you, too, can experience this. The reason I gave the example with the video camera was just to use an illustration you could relate to. There are endless examples of ways to cause this to happen. Most of which relate to letting one eye take in a greater amount of light for a period of time.

Sorry to say, you'll not be getting a scholarship to X-Men University.

Damn you Terry...DAMN YOU TERRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! Did YOU have to be the one to burst my bubble! ...I've always wondered why they never replied when I applied for their scholarships. :undecided

...who said all our eyes...optic nerves and brains are functioning properly?....you kno....my brain tends to shut off from time to time wen i dont feel like paying attention....wen that happens i dream bout happy elephants wearing pink tu-tu's dancing to the salsa on a hot summer night in guatemala.

You might lose your concentration or even consciousness, but if your brain shut off, you'd be dead.

I wonder if this discovery will spawn a two- chip CMOS camera. One cool chip, one warm.
Off to the patent office I go...
