What's wrong with my Sennheiser g2? clip inside

OK... this has been happening for awhile, but I always have a backup, so I haven't addressed the issue.

I have a Sennheiser g2 in the 500-600 range, and I constantly get these LOUD "glitches" of what sounds like some sort of interference.

In this clip, the officiant is holding it in his hand, but this still happens even when it's stationary on an object. I've been far away, I've been close, and same results.

When I reset all the settings on the G2, it defaults to something like 518.5mhz. Should I just try a different channel?

Strange issue number 2:

I have the receiver hooked up to my camera. If I turn on the receiver BEFORE I turn on the transmitter, I get a very LOUD, constant, static/interference. The second I turn on the transmitter, good to go.

Any idea's on what could be going on with this lav??

Here's a short clip that shows what I'm talking about:

Sounds like cell phone interference to me. Cells phone periodically 'phone home' to let the system know what cell they're in even when they're not in use - all phones and Blackberrys in the venue must be COMPLETELY POWERED OFF, not just set on silent. It may be something else but that's the most likely culprit.

On your number 2, the receiver squelch should mute it when there's no signal from the transmitter. You need to adjust its settings.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, it makes sense... BUT, I'll have two lavs going, and only this one unit gets the glitches.

Any other thoughts?

Cell phones checking in tend to give off a pulsing noise but with all the new rf technology who knows. At the very least always have the person who has the tx turn their phone off. Something is affecting your rf. Is the channel clear, this would be first thing to check. Could be something with the tx antenna, is it touching bare skin?

Good luck

some other ideas - have you scanned frequency?

AND

it could be dirt on the circuit board - i had a unit that suddenly had terrible range and was draining power from batteries even when off. took it to sennheiser, they cleaned the board, fixed the issue and didnt even charge me.
