What's wrong with my mic?

Using an Azden SGM-1x and for the past 2 years, it's worked fine, but latley, sometimes it works fine, and more often than not anymore, it sounds very thin, no low frequencys coming thru, and I have to turn the level on the camera up all the way for it to get a reading on the meter. Anyone have this problem with a shotgun mic, or any mic? And yes...I changed the battery!

how about the XLR?? Azdens are great mics... i had the same prob with my XLR... it was the last thing i checked.

Sorry, but I have to chime in on this thread - since we encourage people to search the archives before posting questions. The Azdens are NOT great mics - in fact they're not even good mics for professional production work.

Now, to the question at hand. Have you tried a different mic? What you need to do is check the entire chain - try a different cable, then try a different mic. If you still have the same problem with a different mic, the problem may be in your camera.

other mics all work great. I was hoping there was something I could do to the mic, since it works sometimes, and sometimes it dont...but as I type that...I think I answered my own question, and I'll need to use it to hold my window open, rather than sound.

you can buy anew one - would probably cheaper then fix it
open the mic and expert the xlr soldering

CHeck the whole chain with cables and a mic you are sure works. Rule out the components one by one...if it is still the mic, re-check the battery then unscrew the capsul and check the wiring. Intermittent signal is usually a sign of a loose connection somewhere.

sorry... allow me to re-phrase... I have done a great amount of work with my Azden mic and Azden mics can deliver clean enough audio to get the job done. I have had my Azden sgm 1000 for over several years and it still works fine.
