What's the dumbest thing you ever did on a shoot?!

this isn't me, but....

I just talked to my buddy the other day and he was filming a timelapse of the sky from his roof with his DVX and I guess he didn't weigh down his tripod and the wind knocked it off the roof:

I snuck out of the press area while shooting a rally race, only to stab myself in the eye with a tree branch while running in the dark.
Same night I peed on an electric fence and wrecked my car twice. lol

Outside of that, I was once shooting George Bush Jr. and had very little time to light. The grip left the lens to an HMI in the van and I ignorantly decided to just bounce it off the wall. 30 minutes later we smelled something burning...
yeah. yeah it was the wall. Sorry about your office, George. lol

then there was the time I fell into a urinal when shooting Bob Dole at a urology convention.

aaaand I still have scars from a 2k light bulb after reaching up to change it after it popped. lol

I could go on and on and on. Man, I have fun out there... long before I think.

Horrified when the editor showed me the tape capture many years ago. The camcorder we had (Betacam) had no working tallys so I was basically recording everything I shouldn't have and when you watch the tape back you'd see the camera getting thrown around/moving to the next location or shot etc and just after getting every shot lined up perfectly the recording would stop.....When I thought I was recording I had actually stopped the recording and when I thought I had stopped recording I was actually recording.

A whole days filming wasted....GUILTY AS CHARGED. Luckily the Director and Editor saw the funny side.

Never did it again though.

I left my entire camera package alone for only a few seconds and since the drag on the tilt was set so tight I thought it was locked...I was wrong.

Only a few moments after I walked away it fell over into the mud. Yippie!

always look behind you when editing and mouthing.

When I was staffing at TNN, every now and then we'd get a rush job for Prime Time Country, a Dick Clark production that was recorded live. Every now and again an artist would screw up in a song or a dead interview would need some cleaning up and they'd rush the tapes accross the parking lot and we'd do a quick fix before it aired, always without the artist there.
Steven Seagal was the guest this day (it's an off-broadway version of the tonight show). He was promoting a new film as well as his blues band. The thing was he simply played terrible and was the front man. (more than terrible) Sour notes, bad timing (and several cutaways to hide the dear in the headlights vibe).
After his performance, two producers shuffled in behind me to see if I could make him sound better. This was in the linear days, mind you. I knew I wasn't gonna improve this thing but I had to appease. I explained that all I could do was trigger speed changes and make slight timing alterations. I wrestled with the first part of the song while more people trickled in behind me. After making a few more-than-obvious edits, I turned to the room saying "Guys, ya can't polish a turd." There before me stood Dick Clark Jr., a team of producers, a shocked audio dude and one very pissed off lookin'...
Steven Seagal.

doah!

Shot a whole scene in a park. Worked out very well. Got home, looked at the footage and checked out the my great footage. Too bad I forgot to clean the lens. Yea.

Well the shoot was going great. Everybody remebered their lines, the camera work looked great. Its a shame that my brother recorded over half the shoot with some BS thing he made. Great. :D

Not really my fault. But still.

i let a green AC set up a jib rig. I wound up with a HVX200 in two pieces. If o uwant it done right you hafta do it yourself,...

I wacked Peter Greene in the head with my camera during a hand held improvised scene last week and he yelled in pain. Everyone watching on the monitor in the other room thought the other guy slapped him from the angle and were saying, wow, that was some great improvisation, I can't believe that dude actually slapped him for real.

Guess who was caught pants down during a shoot? Was a coffee break actually.Sounds interesting but the girl forgot to mention that one of the band members was her boyfriend..The shoot had to continue but after the 1hr "fight".Moral of the story....Dont get caught!

Go on a shoot in response to a cragslist ad.
Man, that's dumb.
If you receice a contract over a measly 350 bucks shoot, be leary. If the contract says we cal elect not to pay if we don't like the footage, assume they won't like the footage.
Never drop it in the mail without at least something down.

I'm guessing that's when you took the stick to the eye?
