Whats the difference?

Is there any big difference between the quality of video different DVD burners will give. I’ve had the same old burner (HP 300i) for a long time and the picture just doesn’t seem to give the DVX justice. I understand it wont ever look like it does right out of the camera but it just looks so dull on DVD players.

Re: Whats the difference?

the DVD burner itelsf just makes a digital bit for bit copy of the information you give it.. there is no quality difference as far as what the end DVD will look like. that is determined by the quality of encoding you use, and of coursethe quality of the images you are encoding.

..the quality differnces in the DVD burners themsleves would be speed- reliability- noise level produced when in operation, and ease of use as well as ability to burn multiple formats.

Re: Whats the difference?

Sounds good to me. So I wont be buying a new burner then. Im using Vegas5 and DVDA. There is a preset for rendering 24p wide screen footage(mpeg2) that goes directly to DVDA when its done. Is it possible that the preset button is not set up for optimal quality?

Re: Whats the difference?

its very possible it would not be the first time that software has a stupid preset. but i dont use that program, so i dont know one way or the other. but i would assume the quality would be fairly good since they made it a preset and they know people will use the preset alot.

Re: Whats the difference?

Ok. Sounds like a question for the Vegas room. Thanks Neil R. For the speedy replies. Oh and one more thing while I got your attention. Does the quality differ from +R to -R? Or do they give the same performance just different formats?

Re: Whats the difference?

.. for all practical purposes they are the same. most players will read either one without any real advantage or disadvantage to either format. I personally use the - format because they are supposed to be a fraction of a percent more compatable with newer players, and do generally work with more much older players.

although they were designed with some supposed "advantages" over the other format. its a horse a piece. its not any apple to orange comparison by any means. just use whatever your comfortable with..
