What's The Difference Between A Monitor And A TV?

I really need some input on that last post. It's an RCA jack, so it's analog, but most of the little TV's I've looked at are the same. Would a CRT computer monitor be a better choice than a TV?

I don't know the answer to that one Jim. asking about the commodore 64 monitor is probably like asking a question about the brake on the Stanley Steamer. I do remember something about ohm's though in those days 75ohm's and 300ohm's. therefor you needed a little switch in the loop to convert. not sure if this is relevant but it might be worth researching :)

Thanks. I just remember that my brother used a vcr as a tuner and it got a great picture.

I have the Toshiba 14" Monitor/TV (It becomes a tv when you include a tuner) and am pretty much satisfied with it. The only issued is that mine overscans more on the left of the screen than it should. Having been an electronic tech. I'm going to see about adjusting that out myself a little later on. Other than that, it serves it purpose and does have a good representation of the image and how it would look on someone's television (granted how their tv's contrast/brightness, color, hue, etc, is adjusted dictates the final image). If you use this Toshiba I would only recommend calibrating it the best you can with color bars.

My wife brought home a color security monitor from work. It's only 9 inches, which is perfect, but the resolution and color aren't great. (it's kind of pink) I'm wondering if that's because it requires a bnc input, and I had to get an rca-bnc adapter. But, it's still fine for framing shots until I can get something better. (Now there can be thre or four people verifying that the boom is not in the shot.) It would be great to have something that I can accurately gauge adjustments in chroma level and the like on the spot. But this was free, and my little piggy bank is going towards a new tripod, and then a better mic.

The Toshiba 14 inch is in its 4th version, the TOSHIBA 14AF44, but 14AF43's are still widely available. Look for customer returns, I got one for $70 at a Sears. The cool thing is the monitor has like 4 sets of inputs, and one of them is component in. Plus hit a button on the remote for 16X9, sweet. And its so light and small I might get another just to keep in my car for those times " I wished I had a monitor for reference"

Has anyone tried Sony's LMD-720W multiple widesreeen LCD monitor?

I own a Commodore 1702 monitor. It was one of the first monitors of this kind to use Sony Trinitron tubes. If I remember correctly it has at least 400 lines of resolution which is a little higher than your normal tv. And it has a split color/luma connectors on the back, so you could create a dual rca connector from an s-videocable to use on it. I color calibrated mine and use it on shoots. I works very well for low cost alternative.

A real monitor would be great, off course, but I have been quite happy with a 17" Sony Trinitron television (fed via the camera from PPro). I have adjusted the picture to be as good looking as possible with normal TV signals. At least it shows what the material is going to look like and frame in TV...

I think we should stay with CRT monitors for monitoring for a while still, as most TVs are just that, flat creen TVs are a bit different.
