What's in the Box ? U.S. vs Canada

I was just surfing around and noticed on the Panny US site it mentions all the new things on the 100B(as compared to 100A) and towards the bottom of the list it mentions the DVX book and DVD as well as a larger battery 5400mah batt included in the box. When i talked to my guys here in Canada they say the battery is not the 5400 like advertised on the US site. Are they different between the two countries ? Can any Canadians verify they got the same goodies in their boxes ? If it is different are there any other differences ?

The U.S. DVX100A's and B's come with sweet extras that are NOT included in the box in Canada. I don't know why. But they're not. (I bought in Canada.) I think we should start complaining to Panasonic Canada. They really don't deliver the level of service and value that the U.S. Panasonic does.

Panasonic Canada is basically it's own company. Sets it's own promotions, rebates and prices. The DVX is actually more expensive here to the dealers then the US. Same camera. Biggest rebate I have ever seen here is $200. I think 25 mil compared to 250 mil people plays a role too...

I just checked another Canadian site and they say the DVX book + DVD are included but make no mention of the 5400 battery pack. Can you guys confirm the batt is 5400 mah ?

Ya, I just check my local dealer online and the book, DVD, magic bullet is included... Maybe Pan Canada stepped up to the plate. I would call the dealer to see on bat

I just talked to another retailer and they said no, i talk to another and they said yes. I would like to know if anyone has actually bought a 100B recently and can confirm yes or no.

I would be extraordinarily surprised if the Canadian camera includes the DVX Book/DVD, seeing as I've never sold a single copy to Panasonic Canada.

I'd say that whoever said "yes" either has bad information, or is importing US versions.

That would be my guess.

Also, these guys "cut and past" the info for their web pages... May say there is Barry's book but not have it.

Hey Guys, I Just pick up a DVX100B on Boxing day in toronto (Henrys).
It included 5400 Battery but no DVX book or Software.
It also had the standards, Charger+Strap+Pro MiniDV tape+eye cup+Mic holder but no XLR Mic.

the Vistek site says it comes with DVX book + Magic Software but i think they just cut and pasted what the us sites "in the box" specs said

yeah im not too surprised at Canadian dealers doing this kinda thing.. ive talked to most of them and they are kinda out to lunch. Leos in Vancouver and DVshop.ca in Toronto is the only place that I have talked to that seem to know whats going on.

Well i just got off the phone with Panny Canada and "NO" it does not come with 5400 batt, DVD book, or Red Software. Bummer ! What are the ramifications of buying in the US ? Warranty ? Has anyone gone through the US for warranty ? I guess a guy will just have to bite the bullet and buy some Jarred batts, and Barry's book, he he. Thanks for all the help !

Both well worth the cash!

If you buy US you will have to send it to US for service. You could be without camera for awhile if service needed. Not sure if/how you can get rebate from US purchase.

Contact Rush at EVS and see if he has any knowledge on Canadian orders.

Odd Panasonic Canada said the 5400 Battery is not in the box, I'm holding it in my hand right now! It was in my box. (CGA-D54)

Its funny you said that, i looked at one at Vistek and it had the 5400mah on it as well. Maybe its just no DVD and software. Funny, Leo's told me no big battery, he he. This is kind of a head scratcher isn't it.

The 100 and 100A included the small battery. All DVX100B's include the big battery.

As far as Canadians buying from the US -- you wouldn't HAVE to send it to the US for service; you'd just have to pay for service because you wouldn't have a Canadian warranty. If you want free warranty service, that's when you'd have to send it to the US.

ya, I was referring to warranty service but that brings up something else to consider. The Canadian model comes off the self with a year warranty and I *think* the US is 90 days. Vistek is selling now for $3950 CAD [approx $3400 US] so that longer warranty may help pick. Just Buy Barry's book and the way I see it you get a longer warranty for the price of Barry's book. Not bad!

US warranties are 1 year. if you buy your camera and it only has a 90 days.. its either very grey market, or refurbished, or both.

I stand corrected. I was naturally told that by a Canadian dealer last year... Hmm... why would he tell me that?

Thanks for the information on Vistek, dakotapod. I've rented from them for some gigs I did last spring/summer and apart from a wonky GL1 it's been all good. I'd planned to hit BH for a pair of 100B's in March but if the info is accurate and includes the book, dvd and magic bullet then I'll order from Vistek as it'll be close to the same price.
That's the first time I've seen Vistek have a better price than DVShop. Significantly better at that.

sincerely,

ian
