What's all this spyfest talk about?

Oh, mine will definitely focus heavily on the spying.

Right now, prototype stage, I'm thinking "Syriana", but with more monster trucks.

I don't know. I have so many things I have to get on in that time frame, and it's another genre I don't really care about. Even though Katrina didn't strictly fit into drama, it was the next film I wanted to do anyway, so used dramafest as a deadline to work toward. So unless i get some really brilliant idea...prob not.

Chase scene--DEFINITELY! But in the streets of Los Angeles.

That's what I'm talking about. Isn't the whole point of San Francisco to provide huge hills for car chases? :)
 
After thinking about it for not nearly long enough, I've decided to offer up my services as a writer or re-writer. I do intend to actually produce a film myself, of course, but I wouldn't mind putting a few scripts out there in the world, since I consider myself pretty well suited to this genre. So if you've got a project that's half-formed or you just don't consider yourself a writer, let me know. I'd love to talk about it. Endless distractions like this prevent me from doing any real work!

As for my writing abilities/style, I'm good in terms of character and realistic dialogue. Also good at absurdism, but that's probably not so helpful here. Anyway, think a hell of a lot more Casino Royale than The World Is Not Enough and you get the idea. Which is probably what I would say even if we weren't talking about spies. :)
 
Writing a coherent six minute piece is crazy-hard. I've gone through two ideas since the announcement of the fest. First one ended up being 20 pages with no random filler, and this second one is already panning out to be eleven pages. It only takes a day to do first drafts... but sheesh it's taxing the brain.

Well, if things keep flowing as they have been, my new Sci-Fi-Spy-Fest project will hopefully turn into a longer-form project as well-- possibly even a mini-feature (or ultra-long short!). But what's cool, is that, even just the opening scene will have enough stuff in it to make an exciting short film as well.

Yeah, no kidding. The idea I started out with for drama-fest has evolved into a 30-page piece. But hey, it's now in casting! I definitely believe in letting things take whatever form they need to, letting ideas evolve. I think drama is certainly the hardest to do well in 6 minutes. Genre pieces have it easier; it's much more accepted to do a set-piece or hang the whole thing on a quick twist.

Anyway, like I said, if anyone wants some help, get in touch. I'll try to keep it under 30 pages. :)
 
What are some of your main goals this fest?

My main goal: Create an entire short visually without dialogue, and a complete story.
