Anyone have a recommendation for a good mic for interviews?

What is the industry standard, a dealer told me the Electro Voice RE50B is a working horse for a lot of Broadcast stations? Is this true?

What do most TV stations use?

It is most definitely true. If you've ever watched the news, and seen reporters in the field, they use the RE50b.

I'd probably go with that mic also... I had a Beyer m58 and you had to get it RIGHT in someone's face to get adequate volume. (which can be a good thing at times) Then a friend convinced me to go with an AKG d230... and that IS a good sounding interview mic... but it didn't mate as well with my Lectro as the Beyer did... and the AKG is a little too open sounding. I actually get MORE information in an interview then I want...

Since you always see the re50 and it's often part of a plug-on wireless, I'm guessing that it does mate really well with a plug-on... and since it is the standard I'd say go with it. It's not always the case, but many times there's a good reason why everybody uses what everybody uses.

Hmm..., so it looks liek this sales guy was honest!

Cool! well...it looks like it is the ONE to get for interviews. Anyone know of a good place to get one?

I froogled, and found it for $145 at: http://www.sjgreatdeals.com/re50b.html

Anyone heard of this place, or know of a place where I can get the same or better deal?

Also, btw, I'm assuming it's got an XLR connection? There's no description here...

Most news crews do use the RE50B, but if you have big hands, you might want to consider using a mike with a longer handle, like Sennheiser MD46. When you attach the RE50B to a wireless transmitter, there isn't much room to hold the mike by the handle. So a lot of people hold it by the transmitter, which just doesn't look good to me.

MD46 is cardioid (versus omni for RE50B) which may be good or bad depending on your situation.

B&H is a good source. You might also want to try TAI Audio ( www.TAIaudio.com ). They're local to me (Orlando), but they sell and rent equipment to productions nationwide. They're very knowledgeable and have good service. And many times, their prices are lower than B&H!

OK, Cool, think i'll try the place taht I mentioned..they seem the cheapest..I checked all other sources.

The mic will be used by a female host...so no BIG HANDS problem! : )
