I want a real good serious first tripod. I heard that a Bogen 301 head is a good start.
What do you guys recommend? What about stands?

Also, I'm in Canada, so any Canadian online store links would be sweet.

Thanks!

My first tripod and the one i'm using is a bogen 501 head i believe...It's using the set of bogen sticks that it came with and it has a 6kg payload(the head).

(Btw, PDX, you'd be poor compared to john hudson and impoverished compared to jarred...and i'd be one of those random kids you see in warzones ;) )

You may want to check out LIBEC LS-22DV Tripod that comes with zoom controller, fluid head and ground spreader with soft case. It is a lighter version of Sachtler and Vinten tripods and a lot cheaper for a starter. 8.8 lbs capacity http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...s&Q=&sku=376871&is=REG&addedTroughType=search I may be new in the DVX world, but not in the industry. I've tried most of the professional tripods since the early Ikegami and Sony broadcast cameras. This one suits the need of the todays DV camcorders with its professional appearance.Dark gray finish that matches my DVX-100A.

Does it perform as well as a Bogen 301?

I too have the Bogen 755's with a 503 head, partly (ok mostly) because i'd seen/borrowed PDX's and seen what it could do. it's an awesome tripod. The ball swivel on the head is such an awesome feature, you can level in seconds without messing around with the sticks.
