What's a good blog site?

Been thinking about doing some writing. But gonna have fun while doing it. And vent a bit. For those in the know, I moved to South Central LA a few months ago, and I have stories to tell, LOL.

I am going to call it "Blog of a Reluctant Hood Rat". I am now part of that culture, and there is no reason I shouldn't embrace it. The immediate community has welcomed me with open arms. LOL, you'd find this even funnier if you realized I am a 41 year old skinny white guy, completely new to this environment. It allows me a unique perspective.

LOL, do I have some funny/embarrassing stories in these past few months. Call it an education.

LOL, as I typed this, the Urban Mosquitos are circling my house. (Police helicopter)

Ahh livin' in South Central Los Angeles.

South Central, eh? I haven't ventured to those parts, but sounds interesting.

You're looking for blog software, right? I think wordpress is about as easy as it gets, and it's free. Who do you get your web hosting from? A lot of the popular hosting sites have really quick and easy "one button" installs with wordpress. Then you can pick a template, and you're pretty much good to go.

Post back here when/if you actually set it up

My web hosting for IndieArms is through my webmaster. LOL I don't get involved in that aspect, as he is doing me a favor.

I am looking for a free blog host, sorry to say. I can't even afford 10 bucks a year right now.

Oh, I hear ya. I JUST moved here to L.A 3 weeks ago, know almost zero people, and I'm flat broke. Well, I'm actually staying at a friends house in Ventura County while he's deployed (Navy) for the next couple of months, but working/looking for work in L.A. Once I'm settled a little more, I'm about to start my own "lost in L.A; help" thread

There's free hosting all over the place, but I haven't dealt with it, so don't know the good ones vs. bad. I'm sure someone will chime in with more wisdom on the matter, but do some quick google searching to get an idea

Hell, Ryan, you know me. If you need help, let me know. I know tons of people here. Anywhere I can help a fellow DVX'er, I am there.

Just return the favor, is all I ask. Plus if your Navy friend trusts you, then I do as well. Us US Navy vets have to have some solidarity. Despite you being a "civilian pogue who never served a day in his life and was sucking up the suds when we were serving our country, and we call you Jody", LOL. Ask your friend who Jody is.

PM me your equipment/experience/email/everything else. Except sound. That's my bread and butter, LOL. That and weapons.

I will hook you up wherever I can, this biz is about who you know and who knows you. I can only put your name forward. A reel would be great too.

Wordpress and Blogger both have active communities, but it seems like Wordpress is better at cross linking. I haven't looked at these for a long time, so I could be totally wrong. I would definitely recommend those over Google just because the community and ability to be found, favorited and followed is a lot more important than the features. It's really a basic system no matter what you do- words posted to a page, nothing fancy.

Okay freaky. I just went to Blogger.com And once I set things up.....they had a ton of articles I am mentioned in. Yikes, nothing like a bit of paranoia setting in. LOL.

If you want you can host with me, if you start getting high traffic we can talk $$, but until then its free for you Mr Doc.

Cheers.

Doc wordpress can be used in two ways. One involves free hosting on their site, go to wordpress.com and hit the orange button and you will be

hoodrat.wordpress.com

or whatever name you choose.

the other way is to download it from wordpress.org (not wordpress.com) and install it yourself on a hosting platform that you pay for. My site jdmax.com is wordpress

Because wordpress.com is free, you'll get a lot of visitors. I know a gal who blogs 3 short post a day gets about 500 hits a day, but they don't allow you to make money off your site except for Adwords I believe. Blogger is another spot I'd recommend because people just stumble from one blog to another.

Make your title your HOOK to reel in viewers and blog 3 short 100-150 word blogs a day to generate traffic, about 5 times a week. I would go with either wordpress or blogger/blogpspot both are good.

WordPress is the best out there and free. if you get to a point were you can monetize your blog then u can switch to the paid version of WordPress.

Tiny little adverts on the side. :/

If you are a big blog, consider it. Otherwise, I frown upon those who sell out to corporations for $1.25/month. Do the world a favor and say no to advertisements on your page. We are bombarded enough on a daily basis.

I use HubPages. Like so: Director's POV: NOWHEREJOHNNY

It's easy to use and modify. I also applied for Google AdSense and I immediately got it. Which is weird, 'cause I heard some waited a long time. That's my two cents on a good blog site.
