Re: What would you have done?!?

Try and imagine a sword hacking through your neck and then a million bucks doesnt seem that sweet.

Re: What would you have done?!?

Sword my arse; these dudes are 'sawing'. Can't they at least do it with one hack? Whats with the prolonged "I forgot to sharpen the blade" routine. Might as well use a ****ing stick.

Re: What would you have done?!?

$4500 a day?

I actually have a hard time believing that, even being in Iraq. How credible was this producer? Was this a government job?

I just can't imagine any producer, production company, news agency or any of the sort being able to justify spending $1 million on one person. This is documentary work! Not always the most lucrative part of this business.

But if it was credible good call. I'd hate to see your picture on CNN with a bunch of crazy terrorist behind you.

Re: What would you have done?!?

NOBODY wants to be filming in Iraq right now, I completely believe that figure to be accurate.

Well, first of all my rate in a nice air conditioned Studio in Miami with a bunch of half naked women is 2500 a day, plus I'd be directing alot of the interviews....I don't work with Production Companies that aren't "Credible"
I've been shooting film for 20 years and just started shooting tape when 24p came along...How much do you think a DP makes? Documentary work isn't the most lucrative part? Tell that to Michael Moore...I've worked with Bruce Weber in the past...He makes 100,000 a day, and I did all his lighting...You're worth what they think you're worth....And 8 moths in Iraq...Talk about hazard pay...It was certainly the most interesting offer I've had though, I must say.

Re: What would you have done?!?

Not sure of your age, but for me at 37 and I like that kinda stuff. I might have gone. On second thought, do they make TiVo with that big of a hard drive ;D

Yeah but the money his films make are highly rare in the documentary business...I mean if you look at the budgets of documentary programming on Discovery, History, Travel, etc. their budgets are relatively tiny.  You wonder how they make money.  My agency spends more on :30 spots than most those 1 hr documentaries.  Generally, people in this business will tell you the best money is NOT in documentary filmmaking, although we are
experiencing a phase when its getting better.  If you estimate the entire budget of the documentary you were approached with, just based on what they were spending on the director, it just shocked me that anyone would have a business model or market to support a documentary of that expense.

I don't question the fact you're worth that money, nor that working in Iraq deserves "hazard pay", I'm just surprised to hear that someone is putting up that sort of cash for a documentary.
