what would you do? Vegas/ Avid ?Adobe?

Hey all- I know this has been debated before but I wanted to see if I could get some feedback on Vegas vs Premiere Pro Vs Avid xpress pro NLE's.

I have a dual 2.8 Zeon system that is hungry for some software. I've been debating my options about these three for a long time....Vegas seems like the best deal for the money but I worry about 3rd party support and the "future" of the software. Adobe Vid collection is a great deal as well and Avid's "new" studio essential package with xpress pro is a nice package. I work with FCP's at work and we have one Avid Adrenaline set-up. For transfering programs it would make sense for me to get the Avid or to switch to Apple but I am still drawn to the Adobe and Vegas packages. I like that Adobe seems to be more upgradeable as far as 10 bit uncompressed stuff goes....24p...they all have covered...is there any other issues I should be thinking about? Most of what I would be doing would be MiniDV...sometimes BetaSP DVCpro 25 and 50 - short videos for the web and DVD authoring.

any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

hard choice, Im a vegas user but for you Avid Xpress pro may be the way to go, it works with what you have at work and if you ever need to take your work home you may be glad you went that way. Vegas may be better IMHO, but if it wont talk with anything else you may have future issues.

You can download a 30 day fully featured trial of Vegas 5, probably the best way to evaluate. Certainly Avid have it sewn up if you have access to hi end Avid systems. I'd probably say if you're not worried about good audio support then Express DV might be the go.
Sony seem focused on integration of XPRI and Vegas which is a pretty awesome combination. Kind of makes the decision a little more difficult, Sony maybe thinking to topple Avid at the high end of the market, XPRI has been out for a while but they finally seem to have gotten it to fly.
Having said all that though the DVX100 is still only DV25, about as good as DV25 get for sure but Avids mainstay isn't in that market segment so I guess it really depends on where you see the industry going and where you are going in the moving morass.

I guess the best thing to do is to demo them....it probably makes the most sense to go Avid based on what I have at work but I'll admit I don't love the workflow ( even though Avid users swear by it) FCP/ and Adobe's Premiere pro just seems easier to manuever around...but maybe it's what you "learn" first. I've never touched Vegas but from what everyone says on this board it seems to be a great deal....and thus very tempting!

any other thoughts?...my mind changes with the wind ???

I was under the impression that Premiere Pro is now compatible with AVID .aaf projects. Or am I mistaken? :o
