Being fairly new to filming, I'm trying to decide is using an old vx2000 or buying something like a VIXIA HF S21 would be better for shooting weddings and other similar events. I'm comfortable around the vx2000 and have not used a consumer hd camera yet. I'm going by quality of image, ability to capture. I'm only set up to do one event and am borrowing the vx2000 so I thought that maybe I would just buy a under 1k camera instead and jump into it.
thanks for any advice. I hope I've given enough information if not please let me know.

I'd borrow the VX2000 and rent a wireless mic. Getting good audio for the bride and groom is very important and something that can't be done unless you are less than 5 feet from then.

You don't want to be that close...so rent that wireless mic and film away. Just make sure it has an appropriate output for your camera. I think the VX2000 only has an 1/8" audio input jack.

I'd say get the VIXIA HF S21 and a Beachtek adapter. Now you can be upclose, but not be intrusive because the camera is smaller and it has a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack you can still use an XLR Mic with the adapter. Plus it's HD. But if you're new to the workflow you may want to stay with the VX2000.

Thanks guys
I used the Vx2000 and have a wireless g2 that I have as well as recorded it to my H4n. I think my audio was better than my video for the shoot.
Sure was tired after shooting the wedding. I think I'm crossing over though from audio to video.
