.....And we were broke?

Great site guys. But I'm always curious if we were shallow in the pocket and could only afford cheap mini dv cams and cheap software hardware, what would we buy? Lighting? Sound? I want to hear your opinions. And since we are fans of 24p what would your micro MICRO budget studio have in it to change 60i into 24p? I'm still making my list...will post later.

Thanks, Harold.

Dear Guest,

What would you be planning on doing with this equipment and why do you need 24p?

Re: What would we do if our DVX didn't exist?

Hey Bill,

I don't plan on compiling a list for myself because I have a DVX
Avid set up. Maybe I didn't make that clear. I just wonder what would be the cheapest way would be to put a "movie studio" together would be, because there are people out there who would give their eye-teeth to have one, and search for it all the time. I just wanted to start a thread in case anyone might be looking. I just like looking out for the little guy.

As far as why 24p, I mentioned it out of respect for my DVX, this forum, and the fact that it has it's own aesthetic which is why most of us bought it in the first place. It's a great camera.

Anyways, I'm still thinking about my list. It's been a while since I was hungry for one. Thanks.

Re: What would we do if our DVX didn't exist?

I would say
1 any dv camera with manual focus and audio inputs ($500)
2 Vegas+DVD (can't go wrong here, plus it's cheap) ($599 or $299 if your a student)
3 DV film maker (if you wanted 24P) ($99)
4 Work lights from home depot ($75)
5 a descent shotgun mic with mini outputs (for your cameras audio in) ($100)
A good tripod with fluid head (check ebay) $125

So your looking at about $1500 if you want to have the very bare minimum and want to work with 24p footage. A little bit less if your a student. But who said this industry didn't cost money to get started? YOu gotta spend money to make it, however, I can think of better ways to spend $1500, and I would rather spend more money to start out than be stuck with sub standard equipment. My advice, if your in school, save up all the money you can get right now, and take advantage of student loans and grants(shhhhhhh) it will be the cheapest loan you will ever get, right now my loans are at 2.9% fixed and I don't start paying back for another year and a half. that way you get great equipment to really build up your portfolio, and really impress future clients and businesses.

So that works out to be about

Re: What would we do if our DVX didn't exist?

I would still be using a Sony Handycam. It was the price of the DVX that drew me to it. (Of course I later then got sucked in to the vast array of accesories, but I digress)

I would probably look at the XL2 and drool, but not actually get it. I also believe that the XL2 would not be the camera (nor at the price) it is w/o the DVX.

Re: What would we do if our DVX didn't exist?

Canon would still be riding the "XL1s is so much better than the XL1" gravy boat.

I shuld have a Panasonic AG-DVC200 ;)

Re: What would we do if our DVX didn't exist?

i think very few of us would have really been so hyped on the 24p if panasonic hadn't come out with it at this pricepoint.

i honestly think that a LOT of us would have wound up with sony pd-170's
