Any one using the affordable vhf models?

Azden Wms Pro
Audio Technica 288W Pro

What areas? locations? I am in the New York area and would like a system for $100-200, reading other posts i need atleast $500 not including lavs and booms, so tell me there are people happy with the $150ish systems in a metro type area? says 150-300ft.

Re: What wireless mic system do you use?

Ive tried the VHF ones and the Azden WMS isnt all that bad... its gonna give you better results than the onboard mics in interview situations.. Try to get a good lav if you can add that on. I use the G2's though, for the price they are the best UHF mics in that range, and they are small and solid.. If you can scrape together the $399 for the kit you wont outgrow them for a long time.

Re: What wireless mic system do you use?

whoops woopi goldberg, (post moved) didn't notice the audio topic, the barry guy is pretty quick huh ::) thanks and he gave me a link to audio also was lost 4 a sec.

What did you do with your wms? why did you stop using it, and yea the senshmeiser is nice if i go that route i was gonna add another $50-100 and get the body pack reciever pack and the add on plug transmitter with phantom power for handheld mics, looks like a great set. get to use lav (same as wms) but also lets you pick whatever handheld you want.

The thing with all of this is it seems like a scam a little, 5.8ghz phones go for $80 for a good one. Uniden 2 handset phones with walkie talkie feature(you can use them without a base) go for $120 (which i have and they work great) Uniden makes pretty good com. systems. I'm thinking of wireing up a cable that goes to the mini jack of the cordless phones.

2 xlr jacks + cable & solder + Uniden 2x 5.8ghz set = you know

but thats not the proffesional look or thing to do.
& I like the idea of the reciever on the accessory shoe
:)

Re: What wireless mic system do you use?

At the time I built my system I could not afford to spend over a grand for a really smokin wireless rig. I wanted to get an Azden or Sennheiser but just couldn't afford it so I starting looking around for something in the $500 range.

I came across this unit and have been perfectly happy with it so far.

It will probably burn me eventually since it's a single channel system but so far I've had no problems with it.
I purchased it as a combo kit - Wireless Lav and handheld (not at the same time) from B&H - I believe this is the exact unit I have - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=deta ils&Q=&sku=246365&is=REG

My client love the fact that the lav pack is so small they can put it in their shirt pocket. It's about the size of an old pager if you remember what those look like.. ;)

Just remember that when you cut cost, you cut features.
This system is a single fixed channel. If I go somewhere that's operating another system on the same channel I'm pretty much scr*@#d ! :-[

The features you get on the more expensive systems are:
Multiple channel tuning. (Someone else on your current channel? No problem - just tune your transmitter and receiver to a different channel.
The REALLY expensive systems have a feature called "ClearScan" - It will scan the airwaves and pick the clearest channel and auto tune both units. :o
Another feature of the more expensive units is called "Dual Channel Diversity" - It actually listens to two seperate channels and auto switches to the clearest channel of the two. Very nice!

Uh...that's not what diversity is.

Diversity is when you have two seperate antennae on a reciever that are both on the same channel. The reciever is recieving to one of those antennae, and if the signal gets weak, it switches over to the other antenna. It's an alright feature, but not a deal breaker in my opinion.

A Dual system actually has two recievers built into one box, and you can transmit two seperate transmitters on two seperate frequencies to one dual reciever. The two recievers in this one box are non-diversity recievers, although the box looks like a diversity reciever because it has two antennae on it.

Re: What wireless mic system do you use?

I stand corrected. I knew it switched back & forth. Didn't realize it was the same channel.

Jarred, if that $399 is for the sennheiser EW112-G2, could you give ue a link to a site that has that price? All I can find is $499 on several sites. Thanks

He is talking about the basic kit with only one transmitter. You can get another kit that has both the plug transmitter and the body pack transmitter for $499.

Re: What wireless mic system do you use?

I will make a mic system that will go more than a mile multi channel for under $100 us, I have been lookin n lookin prices are ridiculous, I'd rather buy something that plugs in and works but i have no choice with a $300-$600 min spending? wtf? honestly a lot of stuff is overpriced and it is because of all of you, you buy into the hoopla buying up these mics and systems, kinda weird the camcorders are more affordable then the accecories...

ex. still a lil rip off but you get a lot,

dvx =
3 1/3 ccd decent lens value= $800-$1200
Xlr x 2 phantom power value= $150-$300
built in mic $75-$150
minidv vtr $500-$800
integration circuit to make everything communicate $150-$300
Research and Developement (R&D) a lot lol

cost/value is pretty good

wireless mic system $500 crappy lav to replace? something fishy
