What was the best price you EVER got on audio equipment?

We all have our moments where we get hooked up and save up to hundreds of dollars, sometimes even more. Name off some of the best deals you got (audio or not), and if you'd like--break into story.

Well, being a former audio sales guy...I kinda know how to work sales people over, but still be fair in the process. Long story short, I got my new Mazda 3 for below dealer cost.

Not totally killer, but $105 bucks for an XLR Countryman B3 off eBay. Got two out of the six that a theater was selling afer a play.

and Dave stay outta our store LOL! j/k

I'd have to say it was one of my B6's for $125. Or maybe my 302 for $850. Take your pick. Or maybe my $250 round trip ticket from S.F. to Paris for the Millenium. ;-)

Passing the $200 cubic zirconia wedding ring off to the wife as a real diamond :) JK

I can't think of one really great deal but when I was first building my kit I bought a lot of really good used equipment. Best deal was probably an used Fostex PD4 I got for a steal but it needed a a lot of servicing to get it up to speed. It had a lot of issues but I still think it was a good deal.

When you look around right now at all the good used deals out there, now is definately a great time to be building your first sound kit. You can get perfectly good equipment that is a generation or two old for really good prices and works just fine for professional work.

Cheers

That's what I was waiting to hear wabbit, the part after the wife joke. "You can get perfectly good equipment that is a generation or two old for really good prices and works just fine for profesesional work."

Hmmm... my best deal took some work! Over a few months, I bought and re-sold a few Millennia 4-channel preamps. I also managed to buy a Millennia coupon in a charity auction. Finally, I bought a near-new 4-channel HV-3D and had it upgraded to 8-channel by Millennia using the coupon. In the end, I had gotten my dream preamp (8-channel HV-3d with the DC optimized inputs on 2 channels) for about 1/3 of typical price....

The lesson? There's some equipment - almost always ANALOG equipment - that you know there will always be a market for; and this is the stuff you can ratchet your way up with....
