again . . . what is the xl1 frame mode? Does it do 30p, or does the PAL do 25p which would be the same thing the dvx PAL does?

Re: what was (is) xl1 frame mode

I still dont get it . . . so the xl1 is a 30p camera and the xl2 is a 24p, if that is so why wasnt the xl1 PAL a boom and just drop 1 frame to get to 24p . . . & the dvx pal is not even 24p it is 25 . . . . i dont kapix :(

Pappas' explanation is overly simplistic. For a more detailed explanation, go to http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webap...14571&modelNo=AG-DVX100A&surfModel=AG-DVX100A and click on "Progressive: What you need to know" in the lower left.

Basically, "XL1 frame mode" isn't a Canon thing, it's a Panasonic thing, first used in Panasonic cameras and then licensed to Canon. Canon made it famous, but they weren't the first to use it. It SIMULATES progressive-scan. It does deliver the feel of progressive scan, but at lower-than-normal resolution, whereas true progressive scan gives you higher-than-normal resolution.
