Can I use mini DV Maxell tape in my DVX100A?
I'm afraid that it would ruin the spindles.

The footage was shot on a different camera, and I want to use my DVX to upload the footage onto the computer.

OR what tapes should I use for my camera?

Use the Panasonic AMQ or PQ tapes to preserve the life and wear of your heads. However, any miniDV tape should work fine.

If you are doing professional work then you should use professional quality tape. I would steer clear of maxell, and others. Panasonic is good for the dvx, and i know others who like the sony (but I am not sure if any use the sony tapes with the dvx?)

better yet... stick with one brand whatever it may be.... but if u do have to swich dont do it often and do clean your heads before each switch

this way your dvx will be happy with its owner

I would also steer clear from using your dvx100a as a tape deck. It will ware down your heads and that is $. I invested $125 in a cheap mini dv camera on craigslist. Any mini dv camera should work... at least for a while.

Cheap camcorder to transfer - same quality as dvx100b

Using a cheap camcorder as a player is a good idea, however, will it degrade the quality of a tape I recorded on a DVX100B during a digital transfer?

No. The tape stores digital data, so any device that can read the 1s and 0s on the tape will transfer it in exactly the same way it was recorded. Use a cheap camcorder and the save the heads on your dvx!
