What type DVX100b firewire should I use? 4pin to 4pin, 4pin to 6pin, 6pin to 6pin?

Hi -

Sorry if this question sounds lame, but I want to buy a longer firewire today (for connecting the DVX100b to my computer). The firewire I'm using came with my Sony TRV and it works fine, it's just to short (6ft).

Neither the Panny DVX100b, or the Sony TRV specify in the manuals which *type* of pin configuration I need. 4pin-4pin, 6pin-6pin, or is it some sort of combination of both? I can get any combo in a 14ft length which should be perfect... And, while where on the subject, does anyone know if the longer length of firewire will compromise the image quality (data transfer)?

My apologies if the info for hooking up the DVX to an outside connection is in the manual... I can't find it so please tell me where it is...

P.S.:
Maybe it will be in the FREE book when it comes... sometime... anytime...
(hint-hint, still waiting for it, and all the other goodies)

Thanks in advance -

Thanks Mac (intosh)

I need the 4pin to 6pin. I guess it wasn't a dumb question after all... (well maybe it seemed dumb to you). I guess the length doesn't matter since you didn't mention anything about a signal loss.

Another round of drinks for my DVXuser friends!

I believe Barry mentioned 4 pin to 4 pin is best, if you can get a pci card or something in your comp that has 4 pin firewire. It greatly reduces the risk of burning out the firewire port on your camera.

Thanks Jason -

I plan on getting a new computer soon (I'm still running Windows ME), a PC most likely because I'm so used to Ulead's Video Editor and my other software that running an Apple right now wouldn't make sense (read that as *I have a limited budget*).

BUT, I'll make a point of getting a 4pin firewire port in my new system. I appreciate the heads up on that... and I'll also double check Barry's book when I get a chance. (My real life is interferring with my playtime too much, darn it!)

Another round of drinks (and applause) for my dv buddies!
