What trade would be good for filmmaking

I have to ask, if you're so dead set on filmmaking, why waste your time with this at all? If you think the best education is working on set, then why not go do that instead of spending your time on something you're not passionate about?

Hate to ask the tough questions, but someone's gotta do it!

my parent want me to go to school. I felt like it's such a waste of time. But I want a degree that would at least help me in filmmaking. I'm in Houston right now and from what I heard is that there's not a lot of production here. Should I move to somewhere else like Austin or New Orleans?
