This summer im going on a road trip around May 15-30 (2 weeks) with my girlfriend and two friends around california (with an emphasis in LA, San fran, and Sacramento).

Ive never been, but my gf grew up in sacramento. We're planning out things to go see and do.

For people the live there or been there, what do you guys suggest going to? I know LA is filled with so many things to go see and do, but besides the obvious ones like sunset blvd, hollywood, bev. hills homes and stuff, what do you guys suggest? What tips? any events you know of going on that we might try to get into?

Well, May 15 I will be celebrating my 33rd birthday in Winters. That is about 30 minutes west of Sacramento. So if you really wanted to, you could bring me a gift!

What to do? What to see?

Touristy things?
Sight seeing things?
Party destinations?
Scenic Drives?
Landmarks?
History?

What do you mean?

yeah I know my question is really vague and open. I guess just about anything. Of course, in my case, stuff doing with film, movies or just Hollywood.

I guess, things you guys have experienced that you really liked, or stuff that LA is known for that I may have just not heard of. so really...anything.

If you were going, what would you go see?

In all seriousness, if you have any interest in history the capitol in Sacramento is very interesting to visit.

Also, here is a link to the Sacramento Film Commission's page of things to do in Sacramento: http://www.discovergold.org/VISITOR/things2do.cfm

Also, if you are a basketball fan, then you may want to visit Vlade Divac's restaurant/club "Tunel 21" located in Old Town Sacramento.

thanks to the link to sacramento, awesome!

I have really considered yosemite, and might go for it, i hear its kinda far thouigh, but i hear it's really well worth it.

Get an LA Weekly newspaper (free) as soon as you get to town. It will tell you all the things going on in the city. When we lived there we planned almost all outings by the Weekly.

see EVS, I mean if you got time, and then it's just a hop and a skip to Universal, I don't know if that's worth going to for you (Kinda pricey; I think its $50+ ), I fly down to LA 2-3 times a year, last time In I bought a one year Universal pass for the same price which is great cause you can actually stroll around relax ( knowing I can just come back anytime, that leaves nothing to worry about other than the $12 hamburgers.... But seriously the waterworld attraction and Terminator 3d are pretty cool.... other than that in L.A, ? I hang out with friends, a couple are connected at LA Centre studio's so sometimes we go there if we have a chance, that's pretty cool, I mean it's DR Evils Lair (virtucon). Last time I was there they were shooting domino on one stage and Dick and Jane on the other, + an all access pass there's nothing like wandering a studio with no one asking you what your doing. But seriously there's ton's to do, LA is huge...

Here's a couple stills from the waterworld attraction..

Ah Nick was faster...

Yes, Universal Studios, absolutely! A place for every movies fan. Been there 2 times (and 2 more in Florida one) and next time I'm in LA I'll head there again.

Agree with Gary too - Yosemite is beatiful, might wanna check it out.

And, well, Vegas is only a few hours' ride away

Hey stop by Fresno in the Central Valley on your way to Sacramento, so you can do absolutely nothing.

in LA
I guess hollywood blvd
well there's Melrose
the sunset strip
griffith park
lil' tokyo
venice beach
santa monica, 3rd st promenade
broadway st (latino shops, restaurants) ther's that market I think on 3rd and broadway
chinatown is bad ass u can walk from there to olvera st (mexican handcrafts)
just drive western ave from hollywood to san pedro (LA harbor) and u can see how it morphs from korean to central american to african to japanese to wealthy retirees living on the ocean front (palos verdes CA.)
from there u can take the bridge and go to Long Beach, queen mary maybe, pine st. 405 south to huntintong beach.

I like to drive arround and see the diversity and the essence of Los Angeles

go to abel cinetech go see Jarrod ,and Rush @ evs.

have a great wonderful time.

My friend lives in Long Beach and he saw an accident scene where a car was all smashed up and mangled and underneath the back tires of a semi trailer. Ouch!

Keep your eyes open, those kind of things aren't really tourist destinations...

I remember I was downtown Hollywood, and there was this guy dressed up as Superman ( full suit) and I was just sitting on a bench and could see him walking, walking , walking... enter liquor store 2mins passes comes out cracks the bottle and starts downing it.... I'm guess he dresses like that for a living.... and needed some stress relief
