what to do in NY?

Do *not* run over any old ladies in wheelchairs. You'll never hear the end of it.
But if you do that, take a quick jaunt over to White Castle and try to forget the harrowing experience over some disgusting mini-burgers.

Go to the Museum of Natural History, The Met, and The Guggenheim.

Go to Battery Park for a good view of the Statue of Liberty, then walk a few blocks to "ground zero."

Take a cab to the pier near the Brooklyn Bridge and enjoy some food and drink with an excellent view.

Go to Little Italy on Mulberry Street for some more good eats.

Wait until dark to go to the top of the Empire State Building, then go down to Times Square and 42nd street for some great people watching and flashy colors.

Check out some of the cool bars around. There is a crazy place by CBGB's called the Remote Lounge where you can interact with women or groups of people via random webcams and telephones, you might get lucky (see the website). Try to get into Lotus, it ain't easy.

Finish the night off with Scores, east or west side. You can't go wrong there.

Usually not.

Although I am 21 (july 7th), I don't drink, so I probably won't be hitting the bars or clubs. I appreciate the other suggestions though

Anyone know about that film lab, I'd like to visit them but don't know the name.

Did anyone mention B&H?

If you go to the Empire State Building, you'll get a "free gift if you buy something" coupon thingie for B&H (or, at least, they were doing that 3 weeks ago).

I got a cool tote bag when I bought another lens for the Rebel.

But, oy. If you want to do any actual shopping there, get there when they first open up in the morning. Place is a madhouse.

You might be thinking of Duart.

They specialize in 35mm blowups.

There are a few other places that do it too.

As for sightseeing stuff well what do you like to do?

I'm sure plenty of us could recommend stuff that meet your specific interests.

Go to the Bronx and catch a Yankee game. From growing up in the Bronx I can tell you there are a ton of things to do there. The Bronx Zoo is amazing as are the Botanical Gardens (under a mile from the zoo). You can also check out CoOp City, and just marvel at the most densley populated half mile in the US.

If you're in the city, well B&H was awesome when I was there a couple of weeks ago. Being able to touch and play with everything was great. Plus those Hassidic's are my people, so that was nice.

For film labs, I don't have the first clue...

Boo to Yankee Stadium.

Jump on the 7 train out to Shea and catch the future World Series Champs the Mets.

Also when you're passing by 82nd street jackson heights marvel at the most ethnically diverse and (the real) densely populated neighborhood in the world.

A tip: It's not as glamorous as it sounds so don't step off the train especially if the sun has gone down. Retreat back to the safety of Manhattan.

I definitely agree. Seeing David Wright and Jose Reyes play is way more entertaining than seeing A-Rod hit into double play after double play in clutch situations. Plus, you can get cheap seats at Shea compared to Yankee Stadium.

Go Mets!

Also, I would avoid Times Square at all costs. MOMA is cool. B&H is very cool.

Check out the Museum of the Moving Image:

Or the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Square:

The Whitney is my favorite museum in the city:

As for DuArt, in grad school they did a session with us comparing a bunch of the different video cameras (DVX included) blown up to super 16 and 35mm. It was a great session but I don't know how to go about arranging that.

yeah, I managed to find DuArt on my own, and it is what I was thinking of. They have free demos every thurs at 5pm for those who make reservations :)

Not a sports fan myself, but I like museums and free entertainment. Movies and Music are what I'm really into. We'll probably hit a jazz club (freaky crazy jazz) and I'll check for what little indie movie are playing.

We're going to see Monty Python's "Spamalot" although live theatre isnt really my thing (monty python seemed like a good compromise). And besides the DuArt thing, the only other thing I thought about was heading over to Jersey and visiting Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash, saying hey to Walt (and try to get my free tshirt).

Another thing I havn't really looked into is comedy, I wouldn't mind checking out some stand up or preferably some sketch, troop, show stuff. I actually looked into SNL but tickets are by lottery and if you win they assign you a show in a 6 month window, so that's not going to work out.
