What to consider-monitors for edit station

I am looking for edit station audio monitors, and I am wondering what is most important to consider. I'm not doing any super fine audio work, but mainly am just monitoring levels, syncing, doing minor restoration/noise reduction in adobe audition. What will give me the most accurate sound? Is it best to have the widest frequency response? Do you have any suggestions on what a good pair of monitors is for under 300 dollars?

Re: What to consider-monitors for edit station

I own a pair if the mackie 824s there not bad.I also have a pair genelec but they are expensive.

But to anwser your question you should always look at your frequency respones. Also look at the sensitivity. But for 300 slim pickings i would try and save your money for the mackies.

also look at the behringer (thuth moniters) or the Phonic (p8a)
make sure you get the 8 inch. Phonic has some 6 inch studio moniters they are firewood. i would go to a local audio shop and listen to as many as you can. i hope this helps.

I've heard the behringers, and I didn't like them. I own 824's, and love them. Genelec speakers are nice, but too expensive, and they sound too good. Edirol makes some nice powered speakers that would probably work, or the mackie 624's will work well also.

Re: What to consider-monitors for edit station

I just posted this in another thread but here goes again.  I love Mackies, if you can get them go for it, Genelec are truly beautiful.  I just set up a small edit station in my bedroom for goofing around on and I picked up a pair of Fostex PM05 monitors, because they were small and cheap and that's all I wanted for there until I move.  I have to say, for the money (about $250) they're nice.  They're nice and flat and give acceptable results for less critical work.  I don't like behringers or M-audio, but this is really subjective so take it with a grain of salt.  Dave likes the M-Audio line and he certainly knows his stuff.  I just felt that the Fostex offered the most neutral sound in their class.

By the way, how do you guys feel about the Event Studio Precision line? A buddy of mine keeps trying to sell me on them, but I've yet to test them out.

For you budget of 300USD I've heard a lot of people get the BX5's from M-Audio and the Behringer truths 2031b's. But I personnally like the KRK series of monitors. Looking at the Rp5's for that price range. I'm personally looking at either the V4's or V6's since I like the flat and accurate sound mixes with them.

The new Edirol MA-20D's are pretty slick too. Dual input's Analog and Digital - yes Live at the same time - plus volume control for each on the front - they're only $249!
Edirol is Roland so you know they sound sccweet!

If you have a new PowerMac G5 or and audio card with digital out you can feed in both your computer audio and camera/deck audio without having to use a separate mixer. These get my pick.

There are no words to describe how much I dispise your sig Smithy. You Can't see me at all, but some goofy sofware can gather up my info and broadcast it for the world to see. Get a grip. You might want to include where I bank too huh? >:(

What? I didn't know I liked M-Audio speakers...I've never even heard them.

Regarding the Events....I haven't heard those specific speakers, but I have heard really good things about them. I really want to check them out.
