What to charge - URGENT!

I am making a presentation today to a potential client (NBA player) to make a film. I have been going through middle men for a year trying to get this guy. He had his people come to me, but has just not had the time to meet. Well finally the day has come and I am meeting him today. We are going to talk about what he wants to do with the film, what he wants to spend, etc.

One thing that he said was he wanted to buy all new equipment. Awesome for me. So I have printed out a bunch of stuff on the camera as well as made a list of all the equipment I would like for it. Now I dont think this guy is going to read the techinical stuff on the camera. Do i bring it and give it to him anyway? Yes, there are pictures. And the bigger question is do I show him the list of accessories and the prices for them (All accessories are more than double the price of the camera, total on the page is $30,000) Or do I just have a list of accessories and no prices on them? Or nothing at all?

Finally I am really not sure what to say I want to charge him. He makes millions a year and if he wants to do this well I want to tell him a few million to do the entire thing from buying all eqiupment to filming to the final edit. Its easy to put a price on the overall project, but I am not sure what to say if he asks what I want per week. Any ideas?

Not sure if this will help you if you need it fast, but in a situation like that, I would make 3 budgets. A high budget with every bell and whistle (extra days, jib, dolly, 2nd camera, better post, etc.), a middle of the road budget with some little extras built in and then a bare-bones version with minimal crew, days, equipment, post, etc.

Show him the difference between them and tell him why extra days, equipment, crew are important to making a good final product. If he's looking to do something amazing, then he'll see why the extra cash is important.

And I would bring everything you can to the meeting...the more prepared you are, the better you'll look to any client. And the better you look, the more likely you'll be able to get a bigger budget...

Just my .02...hope it goes well.

it seems to me if you need to ask a question like this, then you shouldn't be trying to charge anyone a few million dollars for anything...you can't really charge someone way too much money just because they have way too much money - i'd think they would just go somewhere else...

what kind of film are you making?? what are your crew costs going to be?
