What to buy ? better computer or video card ?

Hi

What's better to choice ? a computer with :

GEIL DDR2 2048 MB / 800 (Dual 2 x 1024 MB), 4-4-4-12 (FSB800 )
INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6600 2.40 GHz BOX / S- 775 (FSB1066)
+ some parts like MOTHERBOARD and GRAPHICS CARDS

For some 1500 $

Or just buy a good quality graphics card like matrox or canopus for some 600 $ to my old one computer with
DDR512
PENTIUM 2,4
RADEON SAPPHIRE 128

I don't want to spend a lot offff money .... I need only it for video edit (I am using Vegas Studio) . What woudle be better ? Does computer with slower proccessor and ram but with good hi class graphic cards will be working faster than computer I have chosen at the begining of my post ?

ps Which one cards should I choose ?

Considering the fact that you use Vegas Studio, it doesn't really sound like you're doing any heavy 3D/graphic work. So then, go for the fast PC. My video card (256MB) once broke down, and I had to use a really old 32MB video card. Noticed no difference in performance on simple video editing/rendering.

But what would be faster to rendering and making video effects ? .... I wonder to do also some high class wideo effects which one needs a much of power /fast time rendering .?

The cheapest and best thing you could do is upgrade your ram to 1 gig minimal. Should be fairly cheap to do......

Other than that you could upgrade your computer to a new one. I would recomend dell's as I have built over 100 computers in the past and can tell you dell is the best price (go to their small business section and keep an eye on the hot deals section or smart deals.....) another site to watch for a good sale on a dell and other products is slickdeals.net.

Personaly if it were me I would just upgrade the ram for now and wait a few months for the quad processors to come out (then buy a duo very cheap). It is the same with video cards. Pay 600 for top of the line today or buy it in 3 months when the "New" one comes out for $300.

Smile Jesus loves you (666????)

Vegas does not rely on a graphics card so you dont need to spend a lot of money there. At least get one with a dual monitor output.
Agree on a new computer. The Athlon dual cores were king of the hill until the new Intel Core2duos just came out. From the benchmarks I've read, they smoke and draw a lot less power (cooler). Technology advancement over the last few years is amazing.
As far as dealing with Dell, If you want to talk to a human being, GOOOOOD LUCK!.
First of all, the phone menu sucks. You will spend some navigation time there. If you want a workstation class, and you do manage to get to a human being, they will tell you that you need to be a business to buy it!!!!. I was told this by 2 different sales people. If you get to the Business dept you will find out you can buy a workstation as an individual. They do speak English in that dept.
If you intend to finance your workstation and want to review the "terms and conditions" in advance of applying, GOOOOOOD LUCK!. The finance dept will tell you the info needs to be sent by sales. Sales will tell you it needs to be sent by financing. I am not making this stuff up!. Customer service will send you lots of (7 so far) nice apologetic emails from different people expressing their concern for your inconvenience without ever answering your questions, addressing the issues you noted or ever providing the information you request. Basically, you get boilerplate responses that sound nice and do nothing.

I have personally wasted so much time within the last month, navigating dead end menus, listening to advertisements, getting wrong information from pleasant but difficult to understand people, that I totally gave up. Pointless for me to go on. I'm getting a system built locally. Not saying that Dell computers are bad. Their quality is good and prices are very competetive. Mine is 5 years old and has been rock solid and thats why I went back to them for a new system in the first place. I think that Dell has gotten so big that they dont care about problems with their phone menu, sales people, conflicting information, not providing financial disclosure, etc. They probably have so much business that the problems of a relative few are of no consequence or real concern to them.

Didnt intend for this to evolve into a rant---just some recent experience.

Call dell.... why would you think of doing that??? HEHE I have called a few times and it wasnt that bad, if it was a technical issue I usualy know more than the tech!! Takes them forever to go thru their "scripts" to get to where they can help you... if even at all.

Ordering online is usualy painless... as far as a business, just make up a business name like Shanejackson Inc. They dont care.

One suggestion is if you buy from dell, watch for one to go on sale configured as close as possible to what you want. If you pick one of their computers and start "upgrading" it, you are going to pay!! That is where they make their money...upgrades!

Yeah, I definitely wont be calling them again. I thought it would be like last time. Call, speak to somebody, get the financing details, apply and thats it. What the hell was I thinking?.............my education continues!
As far as building a system online, I found that I could build a workstation and have it beat the price of an HP workstation for the same specs. The Dells also didnt have integrated sound or graphics on the board which I thought was a big plus. At least their product reputation seems to be holding up. Never heard anyone complain about that.
Regardless, I dont see myself ever buying another Dell. Not after what I've been through the last month. Man, I really wanted that Precision 390 that I had configured. But now, forget it. They have seen my last dollar. I'm having one built locally.
