What the best PC coonfig for CS4 Premiere

Hi
I am looking forward to purchase a Dell system which can be used for Adobe PPro CS4 without having any problem.
Please forward your suggestions if u have experienced using Dell systems with all the details I have to look for when order one from them.
Here in Australia, they have excellent after sales service and support. My existing Dell machine is Dimension 8400, 2.8GHz proc., 2GB DDR2 RAM and closer 1TB HDD capacity.
Ur help is much appreciated. Thx

Personally, I don't like Dell, you will come much closer to what you need if you assemble it yourself(homebuilt). I would go with an Intel i7 processor with at least 8 gig of ram and as good a video card as you can afford. I borrow my son's computer for heavy editing because of the GTX 295 gaming video card he has in it. There are a lot of combination's that would work but at least a quad core is needed for HD.

8GB of RAM is overkill because Premiere CS4 is 32-bit and thus can only address a maximum of 3.5.
It is pseudo-capable of addressing more than this through multiple processes, CS5 will be truly multi-threaded, however.

Still, 8GB of RAM IS overkill in my opinion unless you're dealing with something like RED footage. Most of the speed is reliant on the GPU in CS4 and the upcoming CS5, along with raw speed of your CPU. I would get 4GB though, and no less.

Having 8 or even 16 GB of ram helps a lot if you deal with long programs (over 50 minutes) and tons of footage. Better response, less crashes, more stable - happy camper.
A 64 bit system is a must for that.

Yes, if you run multiple instances of Premiere it helps, but who does that?

Actually, the program does it for you. It creates multiple processes for Premiere as need, each one accessing a maximum of 4GB of RAM. Premiere CS4 does run faster in 64-bit even though it's a 32 bit program.

I just got in from best buy today and purchased this PC straight for video editing http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+...ssor/9699025.p?id=1218152464094&skuId=9699025

I am waiting for my graphics card to come in now i got this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814261062&cm_re=gts_250-_-14-261-062-_-Product

For a Monitor I purchased this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360232260870&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Now i am good and ready to roll spent a lil over 1k but well worth it.

which video card to stick with?

i heard that for PC/premiere, nvidia are the ones that will benefit in the future, because rendering will use the GPU more than the CPU. and cuda?

These are the specs for my primary editing PC:

ASUS P5K Deluxe Wi-Fi
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66GHz Overclocked to 3.2GHz (I have a massive heat sink/fan on it that keeps it from ever going above 65 degrees Celsius on full load)
3 gigs Kingston DDR2 800 RAM (I'm going to go 6-8 once CS5 comes out)
Creative Labs XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro Series
WD Black 150GB 10,000 RPM Hard Drive
WD Caviar 500GB 7,200 RPM Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 285GTX 1GB
ASUS 24" LCD Monitor (VW246H)
Windows 7 Ultimate (x86)

I recently put a reel together under Premiere CS4 using sources that ranged from HD H.264 files to YouTube FLVs (not the most ideal situation). It was a blast to edit on (I just upgraded recently to the current specs).

just upgraded cpu to phenom x 3 720. Have 3 gigs of ram. Now i'm not expecting super performance but will it get by until i purchase more hardware.
Preferrably another board and more ram and gfx card.
