I edit on a G5 Dual 2.7Ghz with 2GB of RAM...FCP 5.0.4...great system, no real problems except the occasional dropout that can be fixed by re-importing the clip from the MXF file and relinking it...
Final Cut is a great program and is very intuitive...I've used Avid, Premiere and Media 100 and I'd rather use FCP any day...
Combustion is an alternative to AE, but AE works great on a mac, been using it for over 10 years only on a mac and it's the best software for doing motion graphics, titles, etc...
i have a pc with amd 3800 64bit processor, 2 gig ram, and nvidia 7800gtx pciexpress...but if i had the choice i would be editing on a mac....i plan to buy the 17" mac book pro at the end of the summer
Pc users who wish they could have a mac and run fcp, fear not. Now you can do that on yer very own PC. Apparently FCP 5.1 on your average pentium 4 or amd 64 runs much faster than a g5.
jigga, what you propose is: a) illegal b) unreliable. So it can be funny for doing home experiments and stuff like that.
If you need to edit video, you need a good, fast and reliable computer. Macs are a little bit more costly than PCs but thousand times more reliable and pleasing. I never regreted to have spent more money on a Mac and I never met someone who did. It's strange that are the ones who not use Macs who find them expensive.
Final Cut Studio works perfectly in a new Intel iMac with a RAM upgrade. 1400$ with the memory, I don't find it THAT expensive. It will serve for three years, that's not even 500$ a year, if you make 50$ a month you have payed your Mac. No need to be a hiphop star or Hollywood producer.
Hey - I'm a mac guy and I know you're trying to get more PC feedback, so apologies in advance.
I've seen 720p/24pn footage run on a 12' iBook with 512mb of memory, running FCP 4.5, accessing data off a firewire drive.
The point being - it don't need to be the fastest or the freshest to win the race. Any of the MacBook's will do the job, as will a plethora of PC products I'm sure. You won't notice that extra processing power unless you're doing a truckload of compositing stuff (which it sounds like you might be, granted).
So do you live behind the camera or at the keyboard? Cuz you'll be able to find good uses for that money on the HVX, too (trust me - I'm strung out at the end of a two month gear buying binge!)
This is a nonsense. You can get a new Intel iMac for 1300$ which will work perfectly. If you want a PC, buy a PC. But don't quote unrealistic prices. You don't need a Powermac Quad (even if doesn't hurt) to edit video.
