What stepdown/stepup ring do I need for the DVX100a?

I have a DVX100a with the m2 redrock 35mm adapter. I can' t seem to get the same answer from people. The manual says I don't need it, but then the camera won't attach...and then I hear from someone that i do need it. So...if I need it. Which one do I need? Also, which one do I need for the HVX? Thanks!

You won't need one. DVX threads are 72mm, and the m2 has 72mm threads as well.

Yeah, I checked this out...but the hole/ring on the m2 is smaller than the threads on my DVX. It's like the ring/threads on the M2 are around 50mm. Any idea why?
