What slider? June 2018 edition

You have to buy slider today, which one would you choose?

It has to have an option for motorized module and be portable (lightweight).
Seems like each month brings new slider, let's do comparision for 2018.

How lightweight are we talking? Like fs7 or more like dslr?
I have and like the EZ slider from EZ FX. It has motorized option

It has to take FS7 but not necessarly with some heavy cinema lens. I don’t think the whole camera package will ever go beyond 4-5kg.

Yeah, I was look at Edelkrone. That motion kit looks great. Does any other company have something similar?

The big deal is if you want to operate or not. If you want to operate you need to have a pan tilt head on the slider - adding much mass.

Most sliders do thier thing fine - until you start manually panning and tilting (operating) during the slide.

Thanks Morgan, I did actually forgot about adding weight of head to the total weight. Later on I'd like to go for Edelkron Head Module, if I'll go for Edelkrone. I like what they're doing but I'm not liking their prices thus looking for alternative before pulling trigger.

My summary is this..

Small sliders will not do good things with head (and hi-hat for the head) attached

(adding a head not only adds mass but puts the CofM far from the rails multiplying any rail jank/backlash)

IMO your options are..

A small slider+ballhead for DSLR style cameras
You will be able to hand slide (but not pan) this or get a MoCo unit to slide for you.

A fully Moco Slider - you will not be able to operate this at all but if you buy a MoCo head it will pant/tilt slide as you program it.

A Dana Dolly style device (runs on scaffolding tube!) - you will be eable to add a normal sticks head to operate manually OR buy a MoCo unit

Dana Dolly is defo an overkill for me.

I'm opting for this option, that's why I'm looking at Edelkrone and their Motion Kit. Max load is 3.2kg so I should be ok with FS7 when using a lighter lens.
Any known alternative to Edelkrone?

I have 2 different setups depending on the situation

A Kessler Pocket Dolly V2 and a Dana Dolly. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Dana Dolly or that Trost slider is on the other end of the spectrum of being mobile and an overkill for me.

Yes, they are both heavy duty. Sometimes my camera has a lot of gunk attached, VST plate, 7 inch monitor, video transmitter etc, and I need the extra stability. Personally, I find sliders more useful with smaller camera set-ups. The ifoto works great with my A7III.

Do you mean ifootage?
I’ve seen a lot of good press on that one. Do you use motorised module on it?

I need a new one as well for my FS7, preferably motorized. I own the edelkrone with the action module and I don't recommend it for FS7, even with a stripped down camera this slider bends and wobbles quite a bit. It is sort of OK with the A7 but only sort of. Motor is also really loud, forget about using it for interviews.
I am looking at the slidekamera x-slider with their silent motor right now, anyone ever used that with a rigged FS7?
Or bite the bullet and get something much beefier. Really intrigued by the Prosup Tango Roller and they are coming out with a motor for ibc this year.

Id suggest that for FS7 + some gack you would need rails at least 6in apart - just a guess..

Edit.. now Ive seen your second option.. which exactly fits my descriptioon!

Surprised no one is mentioning the Rhino system? Seems to be a solid piece of kit. If I had to buy a slider w/moco it'd be that one.
