these are really good books for "technical" type filmmaking knowledge but the single best book I've ever read on filmmaking is.....

"Sight Sound and Motion: Appliead Media Aesthetics" by Herbert Zetti
this book goes into scientific detail as to why we react certain ways to color, sound, light, imagery, etc..... read several times to get the full effect

Read them in the following order:

1)Rebel Without a Crew (it'll get you excited about making your movie)
2)How to shoot a feature...Jail (It's written in the same kind of mindset as Rebel)
3)Digital Filmmaking 101
4)What they don't teach you at Film School. (Which I didn't find to be too great of a resource, but that's just my opinion.)
5)Rebel Without a Crew... again. (It's just that good)
