What production monitor / camera monitor "kit"....?

Heya...

based on the current options on the market and if you only needed viewability rather than precise reproduction of colors, what kind of "kit" would you assemble.

I'm talking about a production monitor that you could sit in a case, attach a mount adapter to and the feed both HDMI or HD-SDI on need?
And what camera monitor would you settle for?

I'm still looking at the 7" Marshall modular V-LCD70MD-3G which has both HDMI and SDI loop, and consider that a valid camera option... it's mostly the production monitor I'm confused about.

I reckon that a larger monitor should have no less than HD to be useful?

Or would you in this case consider a simple HD tv and then have a SDI > HDMI converter next to it?

All ideas are welcome... thanks

Get a smaller monitor - anywhere between SmallHD 4.3'' (which has a HDMI splitter) and a Manhattan 8.9'' - for 'on-camera' use and something like a Datavideo TLM170H (which has 2 HDMI's, HD SDI, 12V power etc etc.) for "production monitoring" option - the latter will be either for you as a director or for the the client via HD SDI. You will sooner or later want both, trust me.

I settled on what I think is a decent kit that is well rounded and has rental potential for the moment:

Directors / client monitor

Datavideo TLM-170P (1080p in 60,50,30,25,24,23.98)
Vesa stand adapter
Manfrotto 1051BAC

In a Pelican 1600

On-camera / focus monitor

Marshall V-LCD70MD (with SDI in/out)
2x Swit S-8770
Swit S-3602F

In a Storm iM2200

The Datavideo 170P is better, but i thought you are looking for a more budget option... I have also had great experience with TVLogic LCD3G 17'' broadcast monitor... I am in the market for one as well, looking between Datavideo, Sony, Panasonic and JVC... But I think Datavideo has the edge for what it offers... You made a good choice nevertheless, but the Pelican 1600 (I have it) is overkill... Get a custom flight case together for the broadcast monitor, you just pop on the cover front and back and away you go... It stays in the case suspended vertically and the case doubles as protection and a stand... something like this...

Anyway, please do share your experience with Datavideo, I am keen to hear it.

Hehe yeah, when I got to looking after you suggested that Datavideo, it kinda got out of hand.
I've worked with those flight case setups before, but those had a mounting stud on the bottom. I wonder how often you have to refit that because people break it off :/

Also take a look at the JVC DT-E 17L4... Almost the same price as Datavideo 170P but even better...Full HD as well...

Well, the Datavideo is from Taiwan and the JVC is a staple in many a broadcast TV stations and productions... More input options, 30% reduced power consumption which is great to extend the lifetime of the display AND draw less power when battery operated... Better stand and better user interface...
