Ok...so I went over the entire site and tried figuring out what this is for. I know I can capture and do a lot of other stuff, but is this for live video switching as well? If so, how does it work? Does the software include some kind of software based "mixer" or do I need to buy a control surface? Anyways, I hope someone knows or has used this or something similar before. Thanks!

It is for up converting, down converting, monitoring, and acting as a go between for all your equipment so that your computer doesn't have a breakdown. You can hook up your audio and video equipment through the various interfaces in case you are using a laptop that only has firewire and 1/8" stereo jack.
