I am going el cheapo way with a paint pole for a little project i'm going to do shortly, but the longest cable i have right now is about 10'.. i am gonna be rolling my own, and wanted to know hwat lengh would be good - the pole itself extends to about 10-12 feet in length and i dont imagine the subject being more than 15 feet from the camera. Is there any rule of thumb for figuring out cable lengh, or is there some amount (say 50 ft) that just generally covers just about any situation?
oh and most likely i'll be running directly to the camera, although if necessary i can record to laptop instead.
thanks

Most of the time, I find myself using a 25' cable. For some situations, 50' cables are a life saver, though.

I have found that I need at least 50' to bottom of boom can handle most situations. You will need to add the lenght of your pole to the equation as mine plugs into the bottom and yours to the top. I try to keep a 10', 25' and 50' on hand. If i don't need the length I will use the shorter cables to keep resistance low.
