Hi, I intend to get a lighting kit for music videos and short films. I was going to get the standard kit of 3 redheads but reading on here, i'm seeing stuff like fresnels and Rostronics etc. What would be the general advice please and also I am based in London, England, if anyone knows the best places for great deals please say. Thanks.

Redheads are great to have. Open fixture units are useful to build a heathly stop to shoot at - shoot it into a ceiling, bounce it, etc. I would add a softbox like a Chimera to one of the units. I would compliment it with smaller fresnels if your budget can afford it.

Get a mix if you can. Like 1 redhead and 2 fresnels are going to be more useful right out of the gate than 3 redheads will.

I like some of the smaller fresnel personally but a variety is always good. Generally 650w and smaller if you're only able to power off household power.

Look at the Arri D1 - D4 kits. They typically come with 3-4 fresnels and a chimera (eg: 150, 300, 650 ) and a case. Then go out and get an open face 1K. The arri lights are great. Very robust, nice light, a lot of control, all the accersories, etc. etc.
