I'm doing a documentary on urban beekeeping: sometimes there are traffic sounds, wind, or roof generator hum etc. I have tried using a shot gun mic (Rode NG-3) while interviewing a person inspecting a hive in a city park but I had to stand fairly close before I started hearing too much surround sound (urban jungle tone etc). The sound was fine but I really wanted to reduce the surround sound just a bit and still hear the beekeeper speaking while at the same time fillm telephoto but I couldn't because I had to maintain a relatively close distance.
I'm thinking about getting some lav mics and was wondering if anyone has recommendations. I will also need to record some bee hive-tone as well. Most urban beekeepers hide hives on their roof tops so traffic noise will be varied depending on location. My goal is to have professional sound quality. Since I already spent about $800 at B&H on the RODE and accesories I'm willing to go bust within reason on some very excellent quality mics. I will most likely be using the equipment until I die (lol). I'm shooting on a Panasonic AG-HMC150, 1080/24 p. The camera has 2 auxilary mic inputs. Also, I'm sure this makes a difference--I'm a one woman crew--equipment will be lugged around in the subway by a 125 lb. female so I need to be as stream-lined as possible.
Any recommendations?
