what kind of fire wire card do you own?

I have two ADS Pyro PCI 64 cards ( http://www.adstech.com/products/API311/intro/API311intro.asp?pid=API311 )
and I don't know how long it has been, but they don't recognize any external hard drives or camcorders anymore.
System Device Manager says they are working properly, but they are not.

I have had NO problems with a 15 dollar generic fire wire card which I gave to my friend, but why is it happening with this brand name 64 bit PCI compatible/Avid approved card?  Do you think maybe it has something to do with Window service pack 2?


would you recomend me some reliable fire wire cards?
What are the differences between 50 dollar cards and 15 dollar generic cards? Should I just buy a cheap card?

i use a very basic adaptec card, 3 ports, not much else. fireconnect 400, list is like $39.99 but you can get it for way less than that.
