Use Squeeze when you intend for your footage to be displayed on a 16:9 television.

You can't, unless you add an external monitor or de-anamorphosizer. Century Precision Optics makes one for the viewfinder, and is apparently considering making one for the LCD as well.

Thank you for your attention Barry.

If I want to use a 16:9 footage do I steel have to use the anamorphic adapter on the lens?

Also, what are the steps to follow when framing for 16:9 image?

With a DVX100A you can get 16:9 footage in-camera by using squeeze mode. Or you can choose to use the anamorphic adapter. You have both options.

As for framing, the viewfinder and LCD will show the full frame (overscanned as always), so you'll see everything, it'll just be squeezed together 33%. Many people find it not too difficult to frame their shots using just the LCD. If you really want to see it in its proper composition while shooting, there are three options:

1) get an external 16:9 monitor. This can be a $1000 production monitor, a $149 Toshiba TV with 16:9 switch, or even a $100 16:9-shaped LCD TV. If all you're looking for is framing, then you can get a cheap LCD to use for that purpose.

2) get the Century eyepiece de-anamorphosizer ($329 or so).

3) wait for the Century LCD de-anamorphosizer.

Re: What it is the squeeze option for. When to use

Thanks guys. I really appreciate your help. Though, i wasn't expecting from a camera like it to not have a way of framing by unsqeezeing on the LCD :-[. So by force im gonna shoot on 16/9 Letterbox Mode for a documentary film which is ment to be transferred on 35mm in order to see my correct composition. I 'm wondering if shooting on 4/3 normal mode using the groundglass mask for 1.85 that i found in DVXUSER.com will help me on recomposition or not.

Re: What it is the squeeze option for. When to use

Hi Barry,
I've shot a bunch of footage in squeeze mode & it seems that the lcd display doesn't show all of the image being recorded-there is a little to the left and right that shows up on the footage on fcp. I thought I was only recording what I could see on the lcd?
Thanks!

Nope. There's some more outside the LCD in all modes.

Annoying, afaic.
