this forum often discusses which light is "best" but i'd rather create another conversation.

what is your favorite diffusion?

what lighting instrument do you use with that diffusion?

what about that combo works for you?

2nd favorite?

i look forward to reading what others discuss.

(and pix are always welcomed!)

thanks in advance.

be well.

One of my favorite setups because it created very flat, even lighting, and was easy to setup (given enough room that is) is using one of those 5-in-1 reflectors but taking the reflector cover off an using the disc itself as a large diffusor. I typically had it about 4 feet in front of an Arri 650 on a stand that was made to hold a reflector. Worked really well. The light wrap nicely around the face and the large disc would provide a very nice, single light in the eye. If needed, I would use a 150 or 300 with some frost for fill, but that almost never happened.

Another favorite diffusion is spun glass. Basically all flavors of it.

Grid Cloth is probably the prettiest general purpose diffusion in my experience. You can get it full or , 1/2 or 1/4 . Tough spun and also grip silks tend to let some direct light pass so it tends to be harder but maybe you'll like a little hard light - I usually don't but depends on the subject. The 216 Family (250, 251 etc) is also pretty nice , but Grid Cloth has something special. Opal is good for something very light. Thats's pretty standard info. Maybe there's some new materials tat I don't know these days though.
