What is wrong with this LCD?

"wrong" as in... ?

It's a cheap little LCD, probably quite appropriate for some uses. Certainly not for an on-camera monitor for a high-def camera or even a standard-def, as it's only 480x234 resolution, nowhere near good enough to pull focus with.

If you wanted to use it upside-down as a framing monitor for an M2 or G35 or whatever, it might work for that.

It's a common technique now -- they figure there's red, green, and blue so they measure 'em separately. So it's 480x3 = 1440. It's not really 1440x234, it's 480x234 red, 480x234 green, 480x234 blue.

ahh i see, so then in that case (i know there is many threads about this but) what would be my best option as far as monitoring while using a letus35??

It seems that instead of buying a monitor, i should just pony up for the "flip" version.

Well, don't expect any $100 monitor to be worth anything more than $100. A decent onboard monitor like the Marshall HD is $1300, and that's cheap.

Standard-def monitors are, of course, less.

If you're looking for something just to un-flip the image, something like this would work just fine. If you're looking for something to be a real monitor, you don't want to go trusting your footage to a $139 LCD that was designed as a headrest monitor for the back of an SUV's car seat, you want to use a monitor designed as a real video monitor.

As far as the flip, that's the only version that I can say I'm genuinely interested in. I'd love to see it. Flipping the monitor and flipping the footage in post and magnets and all that stuff -- bah. Quyen seems to have it all sussed out with his Letus Flip, so I look very much forward to getting my hands on one of those. I don't know how well it performs, but at least it has all the right ingredients!

To unflip the image is a big deal, but i think that being able to pull focus is essential as well. With one of these cheapo monitors, pulling focus with an SD image (dvx) would, as i understand, be difficult right?
