What is the norm for compression to the web?

Last summer I compressed a 60 second trailer down to I think I was given a maxium of 2.5 mb. It couldn't be no bigger than that for that particular website. Now I am ready to post up some work here on DVXuser and some other sites, what are the norms in terms of how big a compressed file should be to look and sound good.

most people do half res (320x240), sorenson 3 as quicktime, or windows media file.

My vids (action sports with a lot of panning/action/etc..) are anywhere between 3-5mbs/min using Window Media Codec (v8 or v9). However with the new h.264 codec I can knock about 1 mb/min because of the higher image quality (so the file is 2-4 mb/min)

You might want to try to export as Flash video. Super small, good quality, and with Flash 8 you'll have timeline control and cross platfrom support.

I need to figure out how to cut my project way down to a low MBS!!! They are up in the 68.6 - 136.5 range! If thats the case its going to take forever for someone to watch anything I upload to the net! Problem is that I already exported the project as a QT file out of Final Cut Pro. Now if there is a way to convert to another file format within Compressor then I may give that a shot.

How long is your video?

DCER, I just uploaded it to our SCREEN GRABS SECTION in the DVX100 section of this site. Any suggestions you can give me as to how it looks now and how I can make it look better would be great in terms of Compression.

thanks!
