I'm interested in this for my DVX100A.
I always learned that in the 35mm world a focal length of around 110mm produced the most flattering look for a face that mostly filled the frame. Wider than that and the face looks wrong because it is rounder, the nose is more prominent and you can't see down along the sides of the face and see the ears, etc.
I never really thought about more telephoto than that but is it also true that long telephoto is not as flattering too, or is it just impractical in that you'd have to back up so much? I guess no one in person ever saw a face look the same as it would from 50' away but magnified up to fill the frame, but just in terms of aesthetics how appealing is a fairly long focal length for a close-up, say max zoom on the DVX?
Because people will have different model camcorders (although I guess .3 inches in .3 inches) it's probably best to talk in terms of 35mm equivalence is it not? I think I can make the conversion from 35mm to the focal lengths of the DVX100's zoom lens and Z values, but if someone has worked that all out for us, well, that's even better. I believe the key concept for the math is the size of the image plane versus the focal length, compared to another camera of different image size, correct? Actually, the diagonal of the image size, I think.
You right-brain, left-brain pretty picture-takers, help a fella out, please. Thanks.
