What is the difference in the GY-HD100U and the GY-HD100(A)

What is the difference in the GY-HD100U and the GY-HD100(A)?

I have the option to buy a used GY-HD100U(A). I looked on the net and I cannot find the (A) thing. Is it a second gen of the 100U? Or is it a pal version?

Any info appreciated.

the A is a sticker added to the original serial sticker on the underside of the unit to indicate the unit has been "upgraded" by a service center. This resolves some software issues, some related to the cams ability to "communicate" with third party batteries like AB. But otherwise its not much. mine isn't updated and hasnt bothered me.

The pal version is 100E. the US is 100U. a sticker with the letter "A" is added to servicecenter updated units.

This is not the second gen, that would be the 101U or 101E.

I was looking at this cam the other day. It says Pro HD, now is this true HD or similar to HDV quality?

It is HDV. ProHD is JVC's marketing term for their family of products, but the recording format is HDV.

There is no difference other than a firmware update.
