What is the best special effects program for me?

I might be asking stupid questions here, I really don't know. Sorry if I do... haha... Anyways, I've got Final Cut Pro and a DVX100B. I'm lost in FCP at the moment and I'm getting some help on it soon, but I'm not even sure what FCP can do for me. I'm that much of a beginner. To get to the point: I was wondering which sfx program would be best for me? I'd like to do things such as gun shots, blood, fire, etc.....

Oh, and since you're already here, does anyone know any good sites for help on learning FCP (the layout, what it can do and how to do it) ... Thank you so much.
