What is in an Investors Package?

Think of your film as a small business for which you are trying to raise capital. An investor's package is basically similar to a business plan for your film. I've never seen a template for creating one, but you should include at a minimum: a detailed budget for the film, a brief synopsis, any marketing materials you have already produced, any letters of commitment or letters of interest from distributors, and any letters of commitment from known producers, directors, or actors (along with their resumes and bios). Also, after consulting with your attorney, you may want to include a detailed proposal on how the investment will be structured (debt, equity, or a combination), and how it will be returned, tailored to the individual investor, along with proof of existing funds you already have for the project (bank letters, funds held in escrow, letters of commitment from other investors, etc.). Don't include any final agreements for them to sign - that comes later. It should be bound and packaged to look like a professional business document. Investing in film is an incredibly risky business, and your job in creating an investor's package, as with any business proposal, is to convince them that you have a solid plan for mitigating their risk and maximizing their potential return.
