what is he using?

It looks like a motion graphics thing to me. It could easily be done in either Motion or AE.

I believe you can do take trick in Photoshop. Take the frame and in PS make a new layer with just the guy and do the rest with blurs and motion keyframes in FCP. But maybe there is an easier way.

could you tell me what this guy is using for text effects? Is it Motion? or Livetype? Or AE?
Neither one. It is FCP text, that is keyed by using 'motion' tab in the viewer... EASy to do, let me know if you want further explanation...

Ok, guys. I dont know how much you guys are into FCP, so i'll explain as if you are complete beginners..
-In the viewer click on the generators button(Letter A with film strips)Select text-->Outline Text..
-Click on the control tab in the viewer. It should say 'Sample Text' in the parameter box. Type "DVXUser rocks" there and click video button...
-Now drag this text video onto your timeline...
-Double click and open it in the viewer...
-Park the playhead to the beginning of the clip in the timeline...Change the canvas background to white...
You should be seeing this in your canvas:
Now the rest is moving this text by using keyframes in the motion and control tabs..
Will continue...Gotto go now, reception shooting time ;(...

Just watched the video again, he didnt use the outline text, but 'text'...
You can choose 'text' and 'drop shadow' and there you go...

Cant sleep... Here is the rest:
Before showing how to do keying, 4 pictures showing my FCP timeline, wiever and canvas regarding my previous post... As you can see, i chose a text and played with it a bit to make it look alike with the text in that youtube movie... No keying yet...

Now lets move this text by using keyframes in the 'Motion' and 'Controls' tabs...
See the image below, notice how i basically clicked on the keyframe button and created 3 GREEN dots in the 'viewer'. Playhead is stil on the same location: At the beginning of the clip...

Now I move the playhead 3 seconds on the timeline...Notice how playhead in the viewer also moved 3secs further. Now all i amgoing to do is clicking on 'insert key' button and basically create 3 more green dots there...

This is the golden rule of keyframing: You key the beginnig of the action, and then key the point on timeline where action needs to end...(Of course there are other ways)

Now we are gonna play with the values of this keyed moments. So that comp will know what the hell we want from her ;)
You can travel from keyed point to keyed point by clicking on the triangles located on the each side of green circles...
Notice i didnt touch the first key, but i changed the 'scale', 'rotation' and 'center' values of the 2nd key point...
It is basically done... render and watch the movement... Text goes bigger and rotates in 3 seconds... There are many parameters that can be keyed and played to give an exact look and movement...
