what is final cut pro doing to my T2i data?

I am reading conflicting articles about this.

In one article it says that the T2i's 1080p at 24 fps is really 23.98 and the 30 fps is really 29.97
In another it says that is not true. That the T2i 1080p is progressive and full 24fps or 30fps

In one article, it says that when you bring your files into Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Pro will set up your project to match the incoming clip. So if your files are shot at 1080p 24fps, then they will remain that way in Final Cut Pro
In another article, its says that Final Cut Pro only runs at the video standard NTSC rates of 23.98 or 29.97

It is very confusing to know what is going on. Just don't want to be surprised down the road when I have tons of shots with the audio drifting out of sync.

I'm talking about FCP 7. And I'm talking about only shooting 1080 at 24fps or 30fps. My release goal is HD on DVD or film and I don't really care about broadcast markets primarily.

Any clarification about all this would be greatly appreciated.

All of the Canon's shoot NTSC standard 23.976, 29.97, as well as PAL 25.00. These are the common and correct frame rates for video. There are no cameras I am aware under $20k that shoot 24.00 fps. The Canon 5D used to shoot 30.00fps but that was changed to the more correct 29.97 some time last year with a firmware update.

If you plan on delivering to actual celluloid, then the conversion from 23.976 to true 24p is a very simple one and every major NLE can do it. For DVD, 23.976 is the norm.

Its odd that they differentiate the 7D and T2i this way if the T2i only shoots NTSC rates:

Maybe this shouldn't be confusing, but it is to me...

Yea, it's kinda confusing if you don't understand the differences. Maybe as a consumer canera, they figure the 550D users will expect to see 24p and not 23.976 like a pro might. I don't know. But they both shoot exactly the same rates.
