Yep. Laugh if you will, but what is C-stand? :embarasse Anyone have a picture of that kind of stand?

It's a Century Stand. You can see lot's of pictures if you go to bhphoto.com and search for it. It's a stand with a longer third leg to support the weight of it's adjustable long pole that you can hang reflectors and stuff on. That's the simlified version. You can also go here: http://www.scottspears.net/filmmakpg3.html and look at his tutorial on C Stands.

Aaah! It's that kind of stand. Thanks for explaining, Marlene, and good link. That is a must have stand then I guess...

How come everytime I take back a lighting/grip package, I have several missing C-stands and some smiling grips?

:) i 'm part of that guilty party i must admit! grips loves gobo head and the magic arm i guess!

Is there anything that a grip head can't do??

Seriously, I've used one (or two) over the course of the last week to do each of the following:

1) Hold a mic boom
2) Hold a shotgun mic by itself
3) Hold a gobo/cookie
4) Hold a reflector (folding and foamcore)
5) Hold a flag/silk/net
6) Hold power cord slack up and out of the way
7) Hold butterfly frames

What a great, overlooked tool. Just like apple boxes... don't get me started on all of the uses for those!

You can never have too many.

Agreed! I have a few of the double gags/gripheads too. They're also handy. I'm often needing to grip more than more flag/net at once and it's easier than trying to cram two into a single grip head... I like the Matthews heads more - only 2 holes for simplicity. The Avenger ones with 3 can get confusing with the alignment sometimes...
